My 2010 Uly has been in the shop since 8/10 for the cel light being on and surging , stalling etc.Harley agreed to buy the bike back from me 8/11 ( I am still waiting to get paid)  Anyway in the interim I bought 08 weestrom(grossly underpowered and boring).  Then i picked up a 05 955i tiger (sweet motor and handled well, but very top heavy and uncomfortable seating position).  So Last week I bought a Yamaha Super Tenere and wow I really like this thing , for such a big bike the center of gravity is pretty low. It has shaft drive, throttle by wire , traction control ,touring and sport power modes. It's pretty cheap to, I paid 14k otd including tax and plate.And dealer support is great , theres yamaha dealers everywhere.If you test ride one make sure you set the suspension to your weight , it makes a huge difference. I have almost 1k on it now and I have no regrets, so untill E.B.R puts out a new sport / adventure tourer the Super Tenere is the way to go.   | ||

Nice bike.  The best thing is, you can put a TKC 80 on the FRONT. I wish I could do that. | ||

I rode the Tenre and really liked it,good power in the sport mode and the brakes felt good. I was on the verge of a purchase but came across one of these:  with 2K on the clock and half the price, couldn't pass it up. | ||

I loved my first 06 Uly , nice power , comfortable very different from anything I had ridden before (came fom riding hd for 20+ years). I had instant permagrin. Then I picked up the 10 xt and that was even better for around 10k miles. The yamaha has a little less power, but its got plenty in sport mode , and it handles the twisties almost as well as the buell.its actually more comfortable than the uly (more legroom for my bad knees). I actually found some curves in Florida and got rid of the chicken strips today. I have to admit I'm getting the permagrin back. | ||

Hey Dcc, were you up in the Orlando area today riding two-up on that black Supah Ten? Saw a pair running the ton two-up on I-4 on a black Super Ten today? It looked comfortable with its speed and payload blasting down I-4 west. In talking to a sales guy at Yamaha dealer here last week (Seminole Power Sports), he said their black Super Ten has basically been ignored since it arrived, which surprised me. | ||

Okc99 In sport mode this thing definately has some nice torque, it's not the Uly but it's as close as i've found. 7873jake wasn't me , i did 300 miles exploring inner flatistan but i wasn't that far north. I bought it at Barneys in Brooksville, the bike was sitting there for 3 months. I think if more people test rode the tenere they would sell alot more. It really is the oposite of the wee, It's quick and not at all boring to ride.But your still getting a super reliable bike. Hell I like it enough to be on my favorite Buell site talking about it.  | ||

FWIW the yamaha actually has about 10hp more than the Uly according to most dyno results (on the MCN dyno the buell is 82 and the yam 92). I suspect the yam's weight and very calm throttle response mask the difference. | ||

We've all observed how "compact" the Uly is: short distance to windscreen, etc. Seems like it almost disappears beneath you. How does the S10 feel in this regard? Does it feel "long" (like a GS)? Does it feel "big"? For us 5-8 folks this is of interest... --Doc | ||

Doc I'm 5'8 , 30 " inseam and with the seat in the low position it's as low or lower than the xt. Funny thing the bike looks huge but you kind of sit in it more than on it if that makes any sense, and it feels smaller. Only thing I'm really adjusting to is how wide the handlebars are.here's a few pics to explain. Seat in low position.    The nose does stick out like the gs but i've gotten used to that because the wee and tiger did also. plenty of room to add stuff.   Finally it's pretty cool how they have everything stuck down low on the bike to keep the cog low.Heres a shot with the side panel off, you can see the battery mounted sideways low and forward of the seat.It feels like a lighter bike. Nice bike! I am looking for a new mount myself. By the time Thanksgiving is over, I will have missed out on on three planned and very eagerly awaited moto excursions because the Uly refuses to operate: a dual-sport trip to the Ozarks, a corner carving party at the Twisted Sisters, and another dual-sport run on the Mississippi TAT. Me not happy. I am putting a short list together to get a reliable mount in the garage, and the S10 is on it. I am glad to read you are very happy with your purchase and particularly that it also handles very well on twisty roads. I sat on one in the dealership a few months ago and was very impressed with the fit-and-finish, riding position and standard equipment included with the asking price. Time for a test ride, now! | ||

Charlie_zulu. Everyone should have a t100 or a scrambler, I ride it along the beach about 20 miles every nite at sunset. Very nostalgic and fun.  Buewulf in sport mode with the traction control set to your preference it really shines. Some Great deals on them now, but like anything else test drive one. Check out. Nice. I had the old Super Ten and with a few mods like a used Hagon adjustable rear shock, a bit of extra heavy oil and coil spacer, a home made fork brace and Distanzia rubber it was a good road bike. It would even do a "on the clock" 120 mph and handled quite well. You could bump start it as well unlike a Uly. I would have kept it but it had 70k on it, used oil (but not burnt it), boiled the battery, I only got 30 mpg no matter how careful I tried and was just about worn out. It was also a VERY tall bike even for me and would climb mountains. Maybe thats how it won the Dakar twice. A great bike. I loved it but the new version was not around when I bought my 06 Uly. A shame about not getting your 2010 XT fixed as they are VERY, VERY good. A Buell thing that keeps on coming up. | ||

Have you ridden the S10 offroad? I understand that the ABS can't be turned off and am curious as to how braking works in the loose stuff. I have been down that route on a BMW R1100R, and it was a cheek-puckering experience. | ||

Buewulf just light off road mostly sand and the abs didn't bother me. you can get it to go off by tricking the computer , but i haven't done it yet. I just got back from a very spirited ride where I beat on this bike, and I think the Tenere has more torque than the uly . G-zus I hadn't really opened it up before because it was new but wow... | ||

The Yamaha looks like a good bike. How does it handle in off pavement such as gravel compared to the Uly? I rode the Triumph 800 XC early this year and was impressed with it. Hated the seat but am sure that could be changed. Friend has a KTM 950 that I ride a lot. Prefer the Uly to it though. He had a lot of trouble with the carbs which they do not have anymore. After having many Yamahas, I guess I prefer non Japanese if possible. | ||

I don't have much experience offroad (just when I would get lost on my harleys over the years)but the yamaha feels comfortable on dirt ,sand and gravel that i've been on.I don't freak out like i used to when the road ended  In fairness to the uly I was running pirelli angels so It was a hair raising experience. My last japanese bike was in 1986 so this is new to me. | ||

I saw an AX1190 once feeding on a unicorn carcass. In all seriousness, I don't know if the AX will ever materialize as a mass market offering, but I would be very interested to see what they come up with. I'd like to see a powerful, lightweight adventure offering with some decent offroad potential, but I suspect the outcome will be a sporty bike in adventure clothing more akin to the Multistrada. | ||
