Well, with a one day test it looks good.

I've had the Shorai in my 1982 BMW R100rs for several months and have had no complaints at all. The battery is quite tolerant of sitting weeks at a time and the Beemer always fires up quickly and easily.

Last night I decided to try the Shorai in the Ulysses. Shorai specs the same capacity battery for both bikes with the exception of reversed terminals. Fortunately the Shorai is so small that I was able to find a mounting position that allowed connections.

With only one day of testing, the battery worked great. I was a bit concerned that the BMW has been sitting for about three weeks and the battery might have been a little low. If the charge was low at all, it was not a problem. The Uly fired right up (better than with it's year-and-a-half old AGM) and on each subsequent start through the day (I had to run a bunch of errands), the bike started with much more snap than usual.

I am impressed.

Just don't depend on it starting if it's too cold or too hot out.

If Shorai batts are good for Shawn Higbee, they're good enough for me!

Already been through hot. Arizona summer hot. No problems in 100+ F conditions.

Cold is not likely. Mid winter mornings here generally only drop to the mid 30s.

I've been thinking about getting one and following them since early last spring. I've never seen anyone mention an issue with them in warm weather. I've seen several folks report serious starting issues in cold weather and others report no problems in cold weather.

I ride every day, mostly in the DC area but I'm liable to travel almost anywhere connected to the US by land so I need something that will start in fairly low temps (reliable starting in 10 deg F and up would be ok - I tend not to go way north in the winter: )).

My Speedcell lithium battery did better than any lead battery in NY winters. I forget the specs, but they blow away lead batteries.

Worked great . . . . till my '08 Uly killed two of them. First one fried within 1 month while touring in Oaxaca. The second after two days while I was down in Panama.
Replaced with a standard lead battery and haven't had any issues since.
They are extremely sensitive to heat and any overcharging.

Shorai did me right however. They replaced the first one free. They couldn't figure out why the second one fried as well (I brought it back to the States and sent it to them during a business trip) They refunded me the full purchase amount.

Make sure you get the 18 amp mode, and be careful on hot days far from help.
