I miss my Uly so bad - but this may be the next bike. However, the styling is ghastly. The New Kawasaki Versysysysy 1000 is so ugly that I would wear a mask anytime I got near it. Every ADV bike stylist on the planet is on crack. My poor Uly took a long time to grow on me. It never really did.

The GS is so ugly that I could park one at the front of the Boot Hill Saloon during bike week with keys in it. Come out and its still there - however - everyone else has moved their bikes away from it.

The new Honda ADV bike looks like a pregnant Samurai Warrior. FUGLY creature.

What in the world is KTM thinking? Flying toaster?

The Moto Guzzi Stelvio and the Ducati Multi Strada is OK, if your into sexy plumbers or something kinky like that.

I should hope that if Buell decides to make another Uly, utmost care needs to go into not imitating the dreadful styling of the field as it is now.

Then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder - This is sort of like having a girl friend with a high performance body attached to a face that would cause train wrecks.

Should you choose to try this, please let me know when and where. I would also appreciate if you could loosen the bolts on the license plate as well. Actually, just go ahead and remove it if you don't mind.
Thanks.

I am a Brit and have tried the modern 3 cylinder Trumpet bikes that they say are the best of a 4 and a twin and was none to impressed myself. If you want a good Trumpet buy a classic one.

If your looking at a serious off road adventure bike then simple is best. In fact the best bike would likely be a light 500cc two stroke. It would be my choice - simple, stupid. You can near rebuild the engine any place if needed.

My first leg over the Uly was "what the feck is this ugly beast". But its not ugly its just different. As in "eye of beholder". Once you get past that and make a few tail end mods it has a charm of its own. A special and unique styling.

The Duke? Its said to be a good bike but its VERY, VERY serious money? New its 3 times the price my "last-of-the-last" 2010 Uly and that was in showroom condition and is an amazingly good bike. I think you get a serious bike, with the Uly for very little money. ABS, slipper clutch and traction control? Try learning how to ride a bike (old school) its cheaper and more fun.

Anyone who runs bikes, cars and even a washing machine from 1940 will, if they want be able to keep it working. People are still running stuff from 100 years ago? Get a grip Dudes its not going to be a problem.

This is one of two bikes I'm looking at to replace my Uly:

2012 Triumph Tiger 1200 Explorer:

2011 Yamaha Super Tenere XT1200Z:

Both EXTREMELY capable machines set to attack the BMW GS1200, both reported to be sub-$15k. I'm more excited about the Triumph that hasn't been released yet; the 1200XC GS-Adventure beater. It'll be more expensive than these though.

I'll most likely be stuck waiting till they're used in a couple years anyway. Not much trade-in value on the Uly these days .

A bike that costs $15K really won't see much "off road adventure" unless people have much deeper pockets than I can imagine!

My 2006 Uly cost me less than $4K with 4000 miles on it...there is no better cost/benefit out there, period!

The only bike that I would love to add to it would be a used Honda XR 650 so I can really do some off road riding...the Uly for longer trips, the Honda for the fun dirt days with the ability to ride home after! I also loved the original 600cc Tenere, that was bullet proof!

My Grandfather used to trade in his car every two years. He did not use it much and it was like new.

I just love these people. They take all the money hit and I get something thats near new for little money.

Mike, thought you wanted the Uly for the long haul. Change your mind?

I love my BMW GS but the Ducati and Triumph 1200 are nice too. The Duc has big horsepower and the Triumph has the smooth 3 cyl. I'll pass on the Yamaha.

I'm very interested in the 2013 water cooled BMW 1200GS.
