I was out playing in the body shop in our factory the other day and was struck to try something when I came across a scrap piece of 3/16" door rod (linkage rod for door assemblies in the vehicles we make).

I stuck a 1/2" die in the rod bender and set one end for pulling the spark plug boot off of the rear cylinder (the end with the 90 deg bend in it) and the other end for gently pushing the boot up off of the front cylinder (insert rod under shifter side frame rail, hook around plug, gently lever the boot up and off).

I tested it this week and it takes the pucker factor out of removing spark plug wires for plug changes and has a longer reach than the off-the-shelf pullers available.

It also makes a good boot pusher-downer-thing when re-seating the boots after plug replacement.

Nicely done. Maybe you should see if you can sell the design to Motion Pro.

Is the Lisle tool long enough to reach? I looked at one at an auto parts store but did not think that it would reach down to the bottom of the boot.

The Lisle tool isn't long enough. I've used it in the past but tired of making do. I found another one similar to it, a no-name brand, that was longer but thought I'd try a slight revision to see if it could be adapted specifically to the Buell.

I offered this up in the "teach a man to fish" school of self sufficiency but in the interest of trying to give back to a community that has given me quite a bit, I will look in to what the per unit cost would be + an approx. S/H cost.

Since we are working ~9+ hrs a day to meet production deadlines, I'll try to update this in a timely fashion, and before Christmas!

Jake
