While my '06 Uly feels like it is running fine, the check engine light came on the other day. I checked the codes. I have quite the cornucopia of faults...which is something my wife already knows.

I am getting 11, 15, 21, 44 and 53. the most ominous to me are 21 and 54. 21 is the exhaust actuator and 53 is a ECM fault that the service manual says "requires ECM replacement." The rest are bank angle sensor, TPS, and intake air temp sensor.

I have not tried to clear the codes yet. That's the next step. But for all those codes to come up at once seems suspicious to me.

Thoughts?

Have you relocated the ECM? If not, its a cracked ECM is my guess.

A failing ECM will result in all those codes being displayed. Most likely due to damage from seat contact.

Yes, I have relocated the ECM. But it is cracked. I went to buy a EBR ECM the other day and found the price had gone up to $310 from $250. So I got PO'd and fiddled the stock ECM some more.

I have ECM spy and intend to reset the codes and do a tps reset today. My guess is that will solve my problems...temporarily.

Thanks, guys,
Bill

All the resetting in the world won't fix physical damage.

I know you are right. But when I'm not having problems with the ECM the bike runs great, except for some lumpiness when cold and in the 3k RPM range when hot.

I have the ECM bound and gagged and shoved into a slot where it doesn't get sat upon...I swear I can make this thing work...

Maybe I'll call EBR today and see what's up with the price hike.

Some of you may already know this, but EBR does not make an ECM for use with the factory exhaust can. The greatest gains, they said, come when using the EBR ECM with an aftermarket can.

Of these cans, for which EBR makes and ECM, which the most quiet?

No EBR ECM for a stock can? You might want to check again..........

Here is what the good man at EBR says in response to my e-mail, below:

Hi Bill,

For your year XB we do not have a ECM available.  We found that in the 2004 -2007 years with stock exhaust the improvements we made were so marginal it was not worth the consumers money, so in the 04 -07 years we only offer ECM's for aftermarket exhaust.

Best regards,
Danny B

Subject: Re: XB ECM...

Can you guide me through my EBR ECM options? The ECMs you have listed on the website seem only to be programmed for aftermarket (or EBR) exhausts. I would prefer to retain the factory exhaust. Is there an ECM that works both with the factory and an aftermarket exhaust (should I need to replace the factory can in the future)?

Many thanks,
Bill

If you tell them that your ECM is damaged and you need to replace it anyway, they will probably work with you.
