I traded in the Uly today on a Kaw Vaquero.Real nice ride. Wanted to let you guys know if you are looking for a real nice Uly PM me and I will let you know what dealership it is at as I don't think they are sponsors. Also to the custodians, if this is against the rules please delete the post.

That's a big change! That Kaw looks like a nice cruiser though, I fiddled around with one at the DC motorcycle show this spring. Sharp looking bike, the loaded (Ultra Classic) versions have a crazy amount of gadgets to play with, I like the stripped down lean version myself.

Have fun with the Kawasaki, my first Japanese bike was a 1977 Z-1000. And don't worry, but the Vaquero doesn't compare to such a monumental model line as the Z's for Kawasaki :-P

Thanks for the good words.I just wanted something different this time around.I still do not know how to work all the electronics on the bike. The owners manual has a lot of information to sift through.

I recently picked up a '94 Vulcan 1500 w/forward controls and a nice big windscreen. I'm getting to like it but there is NO replacement for the ride of a Uly.

Yeah, best solution for wanting something different is to "add a bike" not "replace a bike" : ).

I have decided that my love and the worthlessness (not worthlessness so much as it will always be worth more to me than anyone else) of my 06 Uly means I will always own it. Actually just paid it off and it feels gooood! I must have had a 6 year note on it because I bought it new in summer of 06 and it wouldn't have been paid off until next summer.

I've had a few harleys, neighbor has a Vulcan 2k which I rode a little bit and hated (monster bike and I've ridden road kings and electra glides a ton and I still thought it was huge) and then my other neighbor rocks a VTX1800 but I haven't put any miles on that yet.

If I add a bike, I might steal my Dad's 04 Ultra for a while since he isn't using it. If I pay for another bike, it will probably be a Honda Intercepter or the new VFR 1300 with the DCT. Depending on funds (interceptor cheap, VFR holy hell expensive).

I'm still contemplating selling all 4 of my bikes and getting a Triumph Rocket III classic. Should maybe keep a spare bike around for when the Brit's in the shop though!

The Vaquero has been getting great reviews and looks to be well made. Not my cuppa, but as long as it suits you that's all that matters! I think MCN rated it the best big bagger recently. I ran a demo day for a buddy's shop last summer and the Vaquero was one of the demo bikes. Everyone who rode it seemed to love it. It is certainly a lot of bike - way too much mass for me, but I'm currently on the sporty end of the street spectrum (the uly is my old-man tourer and I really wish it had another 80hp and a bit more peg clearance... ).

I demo'd the MTS1200 at a "ducati experience" event, expecting it to be my all time favorite, gotta-have it bike and went away thinking meh, don't really need one. It is quick, hanlded well and the suspension was pretty good (though not quite as compliant over small ripples as I'd have expected, but maybe it just needed adjusting or to be better broken in), but... It is so ultra-smooth and refined it didn't feel like a proper ducati to me. Also the fly-by-wire throttle has more of an adventure/touring programming than sport, even in sport mode response isn't as instant as it could be (though better than the XB). Also although its quite light, it has a bunch of ugly plastic that also gives it a bulky feel. There's also a big buldge in the plastic right where my knee falls that was uncomfortable. In the end it wasn't as comfy as the uly, felt bulkier and in bone stock form lacked character by my estimation.

Overall, even $$ aside, I think I'd rather ride the Buell around on the east coast. Out west the power advantage of the MTS would make enough difference that it'd sway me toward the MTS over the Buell.

I do think that a MTS with a bit of computer work to liven up the power delivery, let some of that lovely 90-degree sound out and to hack off most all the bodywork, would be one rocking machine. I'm not sure I could bring myself to hack up a $20k bike though. If I happen across a cheap crashed one I'll jump on it, or maybe I should get a street fighter and bolt on longer suspension : ). Basically what I'd shoot for the end result to be something like a 1198 powered Hypermotard with a big tank.

I'd really like to try a SMR990 from KTM, I think it'd be the nearest to my ideal. The motor isn't as good as the ducati, but its way ahead of the XB. If KTM wedges the RC8 motor into the SM chassis, it'll be the perfect bikepilot machine and I'll def. buy one.

I have found several new MTS 1200s for $16K but that still was not appealing compared to the less costly Buell Uly. The computer engine stumble and rear brake fade/failure reminded me to wait a while b4 getting one. Although by that time EBR should have something COOL.

Trying to make some bulletproof XB cycles.

Here is a link to the Uly at the dealership.I can vouch that it is perfect as it used to be mine and I bought it new.
These are great people that own the Kaw dealership. A husband and wife team in their late thirties working their butts off trying to make it happen. Kind of reminds me of another company.

you are way off base on MTS 1200 it is lite handle great.... dose 90 mile hour yank the front up .Run clean and crisp just change the cat out also loss 20 pound.
I also find it very comfy to ride and the rear brake work great just get update done .I get 45 to 50 mile a gallon on the road but 35 in town .it funny i hate to say this the mts make you go to fast because it fun .The only disappointment is the chain it need oil and cleaning

I know the XT is a lower bike than the X but is it that bad? I cant get them down on the road with the X and I am right on the rears edge now.

I WOULD have a Vulcan, and lots of other bikes. I also WANT, WANT, WANT and have for a while now, a Rocket 3 but have no place to keep them and cant justify the cost of keeping more than one bike. I have before.

If your over six foot and like a good all round bike that can handle like a sports machine the XB12X has everything going for it apart from top end speed. I find that on the road the sweet zone is 0 to 100 mph anyway and the Uly is good enough for that.

I like the fully adjustable suspension and neutral frame. Its also easy to tune the steering with a sharper profile tyre if you want, its great in the wet and they do not square off either. I have never ever got the miles out of rubber like I do with the Uly. Its close to twice the amount. It also goes over big holes and bumps like they are not there. An outstanding ride.

Ok so they are not perfect but the 2010 one is. My 2010 bike even starts first time and its been standing four weeks now. Some do not get 20,000 miles out of there wheel bearings and think thats a problem. I never got 10k out of any bike in 20 years riding and they are cheap enough anyway. I would rather have them than a new crank and such.

I bought my 2010 XB12X from a BMW dealer and the same year/ miles basic GS1200 bike costs twice as much from a BMW dealer. The GS is nothing special and does not handle on the road anything like as well as a Uly no matter what the media hype.
I do not say any of this "because-I-have one". I bought a second Uly because nothing is in the same class and man I did try.

I do not think some understand a bike. Its not a "all fit" like a car. Once you have your new bike it will still take sometime to set it up for your own personal riding style. It is part of the bike experience and what makes it so unique.
