Thanks to all for the kind words. This is the most miles I've ever put on one bike, beating out my 79 Yamaha XS650 with 86,000 miles and my 90 Suzuki VX800 with 66,000 miles.
That's mostly due to getting a job 35 miles away from home 7 years ago. I just don't have much time for recreational riding, though I'm planning a 2 week 4,000 mile trip for next year.
I constantly scan for a worthy replacement for this bike, but so far nothing else measures up point for point.
I've replaced:
Clutch cable (broken)
Oil cooler (leaking)
Front isolator (broken)
Rear wheel bearings (failed- water damage)
Fuel pump wire (chafed inside "tank")
Fork seals (one each side- leaking)
Voltage regulator (~60k?- hot 77 connector)
Throttle body (broken shaft at 82k)
ECM (possibly cracked- 86k)
Front wheel (hit a 4x4 at 70mph- bent it)
That's all I can recall at the moment. I change oil (Mobil 1 15w-50) and filter (Buell) every 3,000 miles, air filter at 20-30,000 miles and plugs at 30- 40,000 miles. It uses about a pint of oil between changes. Has for a long time. I'll post some pics if I can figure out how to resize the ones I took. Or I'll take new ones at a smaller size and try again. |

That's awesome! I look at high mileage on motorcycles as a badge of honor.
As for our engines being low tech dark ages stuff, I'm reminded of the ol' adage, "Simple is good!" |

I love it! Congrats on a huge milestone that few actually reach. You ran away from me in miles early on, but I tried for about four years to keep up. That makes you my hero!!! 
The economic situation took out my customer base that had me riding every day. This year I haven't done but about 4,000 miles total. If I had been able to have kept my normal mileage schedule the last two years, I would be at or near 75,000....but alass.....mine has stalled at just over 57,000.

Thanks, Court, for posting these for me. I'll try to post some resized pics soon- showing some of the wear and tear of a hundred thousand miles.
Yeah, the windscreen never stays clean, but I don't have to look through it so----
I used to have the chin fairing on all the time, but I've changed oil about 35 times now, and decided to just hang it up in the garage and stop wearing out the screw threads! I'll put it back on when I go for my long ride next year.
I was laid off for 3-1/2 months in 09. I just couldn't bring myself to go joyriding while my wife was still working. Got some things done around the house, though.
This thing is so nice to ride that I just detest driving my truck to work for any reason.
To all who want to attain high miles: 100k isn't a goal. Just a milestone. Keep riding and enjoy the hell out of it! |

100,000 miles? Wow! At the rate I'm going, it will take me 25 years to get that many miles on my 08 XT. I will be 77 years old when I hit 100,000 miles. Something to look forward to I guess. Probably will have to convert my Buell into a trike by then.  |

Belt: I've never broken one. I replaced the original at 30,000, the second at 76,000. They're both now spares. Forgot to include that in my list.
Tires: Ran several sets of Avon Storms. They worked OK, but life wasn't great. Switched to Michelin PR2's and now get about 10,000 out of a rear and 15,000 from a front. I feel good on them in the rain. I have a spare set of PR3's for the next time.
Rear wheel bearings: Replaced the water damaged originals around 30K. Got another set around 80K. Now I clean and lube the set not in use and swap them out every other tire change (that's the plan anyway). |

I've got 7 bikes running the gamut from a 1970 Norton 750 Commando to a dyno'd V-Rod. And 2 Uly's. I grab the Uly keys every time. If I was down to 1, we all know what it would be. Congrats.....hope to catch up to you. |

100k miles and why not. I am looking at getting 250k plus out of mine.
If people looked close at the bike they would see, apart from a couple of things on early bikes that it is a very well built bike. Anything made can have a production fault and Buells are no exception.
Look at it this way? All bike makers still have some problems and many have been going for 50 years plus. It does not matter what bike you buy, or how many years of updated development it has had a bike is still something that needs to be setup for the rider that is using it. Suspension setup and rubber is all on a Uly.
The Uly is one of those "odd ball" bikes that comes around one in a while. I was never bothered about replacing a Jap bike, as many to be had but the Uly was something else. And no I could not find anything else as good to replace it. |

Paul56, I have a 2010 XB12XT and a 1981 XS650 SH the XS650 has only 2,435 miles on it . How did you get 86,000 miles out of it . I would love to get that many miles out of my XS any tips or advice? when i got the XS 4 months ago it had only 1,340 miles. Congrats on 100,000 miles on your Buell ! I'm jealous.... |

Riding style: 95% commuting on L.A. area freeways. 35 miles each way, often 6 days a week. I tend to cruise at 80mph indicated (77 actual per gps) where possible, probably about 25-30 miles of each day's travel. The other miles are lane splitting (one of the few things to like about this People's Republik of Kalifornia) from 2nd gear on up and 3 miles of surface streets. I don't romp on it much- usually only to keep some ambitious cager in his place (which the 103hp "tractor" engine is plenty good for)!
Uly_man- I'm with you. Unless someone steps up to produce something better before then.
Tootal- Haven't had time to overhaul the old TB yet, but when I do I figure it will be the most valuable part left when it's time to put the bike out to pasture!
Xb771- 2435 miles on a 1981 Yamaha? That's awesome! If really clean that's almost too nice to punish with high miles!I rode my XS650 SX for 16 years to get to 86,000 miles. Didn't have to commute as far then, but did take it on several weekend trips of 500-1000 miles (organized rides). I just did normal maintenance on it and changed the oil faithfully. It was pretty (no, very) tired when I was done with it. I remember having to change alternator slip-ring brushes several times. Swing arm bushing was shot- fork oil always looked like silver metal flake paint! |

70k on my XTZ750 SUPER TEN was my best, mind you it was worn out by then.
"Congrats Paul! Wow and no 2010 wheel upgrade !?" I still do not go with the wheel bearing issue. I think they were over tight from the factory and people, because they follow the factory torque settings and if the spacer is already crushed you will have a problem. It is a known fact that some of the torque settings on the bike are way to high. I do them by feel now. |

I think my experience will be the rule, not the exception. Just takes persistence (and a 70 mile commute and year-round riding weather!). I'll post some pics soon. |

Not many reports of bad cranks recently either... they were stacking up fast before, but then just kind of dropped off completely. So maybe we were just catching up on a backlog.
