Sorry guys, but what a bunch of over bloated 'look at me' I'm a real biker baloney!  Wow, I ride when it's cold but others don't! Am I the real deal or what? lol Wow, I don't clean my bike so I'm the real deal but others just clean, clean, clean! lol Wow, I commute and put on the miles but others just ride on occasional weekends! Am I the REAL DEAL or what?! lol And on and on! Who are the posers? Who are the ones seeking attention and recognition? lol I know, I know, no criticism here, just observations! Thank goodness there are no mirrors in the room! lol Sorry guys but it was getting DEEP!!! | ||

Have any of you guys who claim to ride year-round ever lived in Minnesota? It is common to have temps between 0 and 20 degrees Fahrenheit with wind chills reaching 40 below zero once in a while. Oh, did I mention the glare ice patches that remain for weeks at a time? There may be a few who ride all year long here but they are few and far between. Last year I stored my XT mid November until the first week of April. I think it just makes my riding season even more enjoyable. Thanks. | ||

I rode all year in Michigan, below zero (not including wind chill). That is what snowmobile and heated gear is for! I didn't ride when roads had lots of snow. Now I live in AZ, all year round every day riding :P | ||

My bikes live in the house with me. They stay very clean, serviced and ready. They both have folding mirrors and pass through my front door easily. At least one gets ridden every day. I have ridden for weeks only stopping to eat and rest. I have ridden almost daily for decades to and from several careers. I ride regularly, just to ride. I am an owner and I am a rider. I am a motorcycle enthusiast.  | ||

Treadmarks...great post and bikes! Guys, please don;t take this the wrong way, my post is not about one being better than the other! It's about what I like and how I view it...I said many times in this thread, to each his own, and one does not negate the other! This is not meant to be a competition on who is better, or who rides harder...I just made a statement of how I feel, it is not meant to be absolute or despareging of anyone else, now can we just go back to talking about our Uly's? Lucky bastage, indeed. The Hyper in white has always been the color that made my pelvis thrust forward with an involuntary 'SCHWING!', but the same can be said for the white TT. Or almost any other tastefully done white bike. Hijack over. | ||

I am still riding, but a lot less. Toughness and safety should not be confused. This was from my first ride in April of this year!! Finally we had ice-free streets.  | ||

I'm guessing it is about the same in New York. I've never been there. You guys do seem to really get dumped on with snow sometimes! I realize it is possible to ride pretty much year-round. I'm just saying I don't enjoy it much when it's that cold so I just store mine. I don't like to get the bike covered with road salt either. (Come to think of it, I don't even like gravel dust!) I know I'm being too fussy but I just can't help it. I was brought up that way. I love my XT and would feel awful if I dumped it on the ice. Biffdotorg, our bikes look almost identical except for my Palmer Brackets. Thanks for posting! | ||

Oh, did I mention the glare ice patches that remain for weeks at a time?  This was taken on New Years Day of 2006. I ride year round; but I won't go out when the roads are icy or snow covered. There have been many years when I didn't have a car or pickup. I've done this while living in both Colorado and Massachusetts. The coldest I've ridden was -8° F. I don't enjoy riding in the winter as much as in the summer, but there are times when I have to get out on a bike, even if it's only for a short ride. Yes; I am the real deal. And I'm proud of it. When it gets real cold out, there is no warming that engine up without freezing half to death. Pretty quick like we shall see photos of dipstick and primary splooge. I used to check my trap lines on my motorcycle. I've got frostbite on my one cheek to prove it. I'd stop and grab the pipes on my Honda CB350 until my fingers were warm enough to continue on. I finally wised up and thought about the animals and quit that trapping crapola. Only thing I have no qualms about killing these days are mosquitoes and flies an gnats. Yeah, I'm a hypocrite because I eat meat, fish, and poultry. | ||

I ride most days, during my thirties I rode very day. I would ride my Blackbird to work, go in service on the Kawasaki KZ1000P for 10 hours then on the weekends I rode enduros for fun. Those were the days  Now I ride the Uly whenever I have an excuse and still ride enduros on the weekends, will be 50 in March and have had at least one motorcycle for the last 40 years without a single break. My daughters ride now, they are 7 and 8. I think I am a rider. | ||

I have a picture of a buddy of mine riding his mid 70's 400 Husky two stroke dirt bike in a foot of new snow in S.W. NY state. We towed that damn thing about a mile on an ice covered road to finally hit a bare spot of grass on the berm to get it to turn over. It fired instantly, but with that trigger throttle, and a snap at 5,000 rpm power band, he had a hand full skating it back to his place. Rode it for a couple of hours out in his back field. A truly brutal machine on ice, it was quite fun in deep snow though. Temps were below 20F that day. I ride year round also, but I really don't care if others do.....unless they are riding with me and they are late!  Harley dealer said I was the only one to ride in that day. | ||

Maybe you could mount a snowplow and warning light on that thing. You could also fill the trunk and bags with sand/salt mixture and put a spreader on back! Just kidding, of course! You must be a lot tougher than me! | ||

Here is what is needed for places where the Ground Does NOT Thaw till May. little different than being near the eastern seaboard that moderates extreme cold temperatures... Our ice Stays! Made Snow Chains for my 81 GPZ550 out of 200lb test wire cable fishing leader line & crimps... simple crosslinks w/3 crimps, loop on each end, threaded thru round the circumference of the tire with 1 long cable on each side hooked together w/ leader clips.
