Hello everyone!

Anyone have any ideas for a good place to attach the ez pass to in the Uly? Somewhere that the toll booth will read and not fly off into the road??? : )

I have 2 tolls in my daily commute and having to stop to pay sucks!

Thanks again!

Just go through them, if you have the licence plate on your EZ Pass account, they will automatically deduct the toll.

I have never found a reliable method for getting the toll readers to detect the bike, they are just not sensitive enough for it. If there is a gate, I will tailgate a car and go through at the same time as them.

Ditto on Froggy's idea. I made one run to Homecoming on the Uly with a pass on board. Velcroed it to the inside of the topcase lid. It "read" about half the time; the other half, the bill came in the mail. No biggie either way, and a lot easier than stopping/removing gloves/fumbling for a wallet/returning wallet to pocket/fumbling with gloves/trying not to get run over pulling out.

On heavy bikes like the Uly it usually works for me to either put it in a pocket and wave it at the sensor when I go through or to stick it to the inside of the windscreen. Not 100%, but usually works. I made it home to DC from boston without, I think, running any tolls on the bike.

On light dual sports even stopping and waving the pass at the sensor doesn't work.

Get a small tank bag and stick it in there. That's where I keep mine and it reads every time. Technically speaking you're supposed to use the manned lanes only and have the transponder handy to show the attendant if it doesn't read, but I guess nobody does.

Doesn't always work though.

I keep mine in the map pocket on my tankbag. Always reads it every time.

I attached mine to the inside of the top-box lid. Works fine there assuming you have a plastic top-box of some kind....

That's inaccurate.

Yikes, Court!

No love from the Garden State. Wonder if that fee is applied to everyone or just non-NJ residents?

+1 on toll transponder in tank bag or top case. Map pouch in tank bag on a dry day, top case when it rains. Has worked well for me on toll roads in the F-L-A.

Court,

I've registered my license plates with EZPass and so far they have used the plate # on any passes that failed to register. My billing statement is marked that the system didn't read the transponder and my account was charged using the plate #. I had received two of those violation letters prior to registering my plate numbers, through the dispute process i was able to get the Administrative Fee waived each time.

The only time I've ever gotten one of those in the mail was when my plate wasn't on the account. I have not received anymore since adding all my bikes.

AEROSTICH HAS A 'CYCLE E-PASS' MOUNT ... WORKS WELL ... I USE A TINY BUNGEE TO KEEP SECURE ... ABOUT $24.00 ... MOUNTS TO HANDLEBAR ... IN NJ/NY IF YOU GO THROUGH TOLL WITH PASS IT IS ALWAYS A $25.00 ADMIN FEE PLUS TOLL AMOUNT ... I HAVE HAD A FEW ...

I tried the handlebar mount, never worked. I tried tank bag, never worked. I just go through. Bear mtn bridge is the only one I actually stop for now, sometimes it is only 1 lane open, so i can quickly grab my pass and hand to the attendant.

I tried velcroing it to a stalk on my bars, but it wouldn't read.

Then I used a plastic holder with suction cubs on the inside of my tall windscreen, but the cups just wouldn't hold reliably.

Now that I always ride with a mil-spec "don't-hit-me-you-caging-bastards" neon vest...the breast pocket on the vest holds the EZ-Pass and it reads every time.

I also find that in VA (on the Dulles Toll Road) that they just deduct the amount from your account, if your plate is registered.

Stick my K-Tag in the map pocket on top of my Wolfman Rainier tank bag. Still try to avoid the lanes with gates.....you just never know.

I found a pretty good solution. Here in the corrupt and over priced state of Illinois. The tollway offers an alternative transponder. I-PASS License Plate Tag (LPT).

I found it fits perfectly under a Uly fly screen with a bit of velcro and two cable wraps. Once mounted, it is hidden and you never have to worry about it. Works well here, maybe you can get something simular there. I got it for the car, metal in the glass) but it never worked on it.
Also, on the tollways here you can go thru without it, but you are charged the full toll. With the I-Pass it is half the posted amount.

Here's the bag we have on the XT:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/533016.jpg

The Buell bag is fine for dry weather, but when it rains the area near the zipper takes a beating so if there is a chance of rain, I'll either leave it at home or make sure I've got adequate room in one of the hard bags to stow it. The rain cover "Poofs" up at highway speeds. Annoying.

The tank bag on the X is prolly about 10 or more years old and is made by Marsee. Although sun faded and possibly too basic by current standards, it suits us fine. I googled the brand Marsee and most new designs have compartments for all kinds of electronic gew gaws. The bag came with the beemer when we bought it a few years back. After a trip to Joann Fabrics for buckles, straps and grommets, and ten minutes with the glue gun, it was modified for use on the X.

The zippers on the Marsee have fared better than the zippers on the Buell tank bag. Less room for stuff, but a sturdier design, IMO.

I use a holder with suction cups and mount it to the inside of windscreen. For security I have a strip of nylon webbing with velcro attached zip-tied to the holder and the mating web/velcro zip-tied to the palmer bracket. This allows me to quickly stash it when in a rest area or around town. It also keeps it from flying away should the suction cups let go (which has only happened twice). Reads every time.

A guy I met in Dallas had sewed something onto his left glove to attach the pass to back side of it.

Here in IL I have all my vehicle's plates registered. The actual pass is in my daily driver. All the other ones get deducted using the plate. No hassle for me.

Hey Zach,
Don't forget you pay the full toll amount if you go through a plaza without your pass. Usually double the regular I-Pass rate! EIther way it is a ripoff.

Ummm... Your question is irrelevant because you shouldn't be using ez-crap to begin with. Use cash! The more people use electronic payments options the easier it is for the bad guys to steal from us...Bad biker! No cookie for you!

I don't know what is more scary: living in a society where identity theft and electronic funds transfer fraud is so commonplace, or the lack of technical understanding of the public that makes it possible. Comment's like Froggy make it obvious that "joe public" has no clue.

Merely purchasing a valid ez-pass means that a minimum of three irresponsible (and possibly corrupt) organizations now have confidential personal information about you that may include your SSN, credit card numbers, and/or bank account information. Since the states rarely if ever manage their toll operations themselves a private business is doing it on their behalf. Also, ez-pass purchasing is usually done at retail merchants who can then copy the information from your application, and the state gov't themselves don't have a stellar track record for protecting sensitive personal information. All it takes is one unscrupulous person in the chain of information to steal your data and it could takes years and many dollars to get it straightened out. Not to mention the toll collectors that are put out of work by automating the system.

And I haven't even touched on the problems with the RFID transmitters and how easy it is for technically competent folks to use them to steal information and track people. RFID is a vile intrusive technology that is extremely big-brother friendly.

And the ultimate insult is that many jurisdictions are beginning to penalize those of us who refuse to put ourselves at risk. They are beginning to charge us higher toll rates for not "getting with the program".

This is all I have to say about it but it does justify a mini-rant, for all it's worth and for those of you who might actually get some useful advice out of my comments. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! gov't and business are NOT your friends and there is often a very high price for convenience that is never realized up front.
