Recently replaced tires and did maintenance, see thread here. For some reason from when I put the bike up on the lift to being done with it the neutral switch went bad. I don't think anything I did caused it but in case you know more than me here is a quick rundown of what I did in the above link. Removed front and rear wheels Removed belt tension pulley removed passenger frame portion installed bad boy air horn on bike changed engine oil primary/trans oil removed muffler removed air filter I used the service manual to make sure it wasn't the circuit or light. (grounded the plug to the frame and the light illuminates). The switch itself seems like it is behind the pulley and that the pulley would need to be removed to get to the switch. Though there is no reference in the service manual to having to remove the pulley. I ordered the switch ($15) and am wondering if I need to get the pulley off. In all honesty getting the wire plug off the switch was a pain and even harder to get it back on with the pulley in the way so I'm assuming it will need to come off. Dealership said 1-1.5 hours to do it so I'm assuming they were planning on removing the front pulley also. Any advice on how to do it? Tricks to not have to remove the pulley? Thanks! | ||

are you sure its the switch under the pulley and not the plug/switch on the clutch lever? for the cost of 1 paper clip. unplug it from the clutch lever. bend paper clip into a U stick it in the end of the plug Add a little black electrical tape call it good | ||

What would the switch in the clutch lever have to do with neutral indication? Since the switch has gone bad (what I still think it is) I have to pull the clutch to start the bike, starter won't crank when the bike is in neutral I'm guessing because the electronics don't see the bike in neutral. But still don't know what the hand lever switch would have to do with the light, I believe my above comment shows that switch is functioning properly. | ||

If your bike will go into neutral, the wiring is good, I bet its the switch. If you want to know for sure, take the switch off and push on the ball or whatever and shoot the contacts with a meter, this will let you know if the switch is opening and closing the circuit. Basically what you were doing to illuminate the N light was closing the circuit. I bet its the switch or one of the contacts of the switch is broken. Let me know if you got it. Josh | ||
