Has anyone had or have this problem, I have an 06 Uly with about 26k on it and whenever I start it the trip meter and clock zero, the only thing that stays is the total mileage. Only thing I can think of is I have a Race ECM so it might work a little different. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Loose battery connections or battery is too weak. Mine did the same until I got a new battery.

The reset is caused by a loss of power, either due to a weak battery, or loose connection.

Thanks guys, figured battery was going bad, it cranks over but when it reached TDC it pauses, then starts. Are all Buell batteries interchangeable? Got my X1 parked for now till I get a new tire, wondering if it will fit?

The XB uses a different battery than the X1.

Try sweeping the handlebars left/right lock to lock to see if that resets everything. My 06 Uly had a bad wire in the wire harness at the steering head. A known problem. I thought mine was a battery problem because I noticed it first thing every ride. It was all the turning I did to get it out of the shed. I think there is a revised clamp for the wire harness. I never would have found it without help from this great forum.

So, final verdict, bad battery. Went to the parts store after work and got a new battery and "viola" starts without zeroing the cluster (of course replacing it zeroed it though) and much stronger I might add. It really speaks for the resilience of the bike because for the past couple of days that the starts have been weaker, the fan did not come on after a shutdown, I'm thinking the bike knew that the battery was on its deathbed. It all makes sense now, the battery would charge fast when I used the trickle charger, probably because the capacitance was low and the starts demanded too much of a surge causing the problem. Thank you all for the input.
