Been on the lookout for a Uly for a while now. Picked up a 2009 xb12x yesterday. Has 2,300 miles on the ODO. Completely stock.

The PO included a Sebring exhaust and a set of nearly new Dunlop D616 tires. These spares have not been on the bike. Anybody familiar with this exhaust or the Dunlops? I'm not a big fan of Dunlop tires.

I want to find a set of factory hard bags along with the mounting brackets and the large windscreen. What are the other recommended farkles?

I'll order a FM and parts book also.

I'm not new to BadWeb or Buell. I've got an S3T that I've put 76k miles on.

Any input appreciated.

Barry

I hated the large windscreen... it just moved the buffetting from my chest (where I don't mind it) to my helmet (where it drove me nuts).

Stock exhaust is a fantastic skidplate, has a nice tone, and isn't obnoxiously loud. You will have to repaint it every season or two though if you care about how it looks.

Heated grips are my favorite mode. I like the Fiam Freeway blaster horn upgrade (cheap and easy), and I switched the low beam to a cheap 35W HID (which I also like).

Nice bike!

The Dunlop D616 is the worst tire in the world. It is so terrible that even if you try and recycle it by turning into a swing for a child, the kid will die. If you use them as bumpers for your boat, your boat will capsize. If you use them for the tire wall at your local track, it will magnetically pull vehicles into it causing them to crash. It is THAT bad.

Also, they like to go flat on you when you least expect it.

Ah come on Froggy, they couldn't be any worse than the Perelli Scorpions I'm running now.

Which Scorpion? The Sync is a fantastic long lasting tire, and the Trail has plenty of grip and a nice thick carcass designed for dual sporting. Both tires do fantastic in pretty much anything on the street, including plenty of grip in the rain. I haven't tried anything else in the Scorpion lineup.

I really wish Dunlop would recall the 616, and give everyone a dozen sets of Scorpion Trails.

Got a set of Scorpion Syncs on my XB12X right now and am not impressed, they are a good commuter tire though! They just wear a little too fast for my liking. As long as it's not raining or there isn't any dirt to traverse they're okay. I actually get better traction in the rain on my X1 with Dunlop Q2's on it, but that's just my opinion.

Personally, I would look into getting some aftermarket luggage instead of the Buell stuff... I'm not overly impressed with the quality of the bags. The latches seem very flimsy, although they've held up for me so far. Givi stuff seems much sturdier to me - not sure if their stuff can be made to fit on the Uly though.

And the large windscreen for me was not very good at all, which seems to be a common complaint. I got the Madstad setup, with one of their screens, and couldn't be happier.

Froggy doesn't know what he's talking about. I've had nothing but 616's on my Uly since new (nearly 30k miles now) and won't run anything else on it. They handle great for a big, tall, overloaded, porker bagger-Buell; they're awesome in loose stuff (mud, gravel, dirt, sand, take your pick), they're relatively inexpensive and they have a nice thick carcass for the offroad stuff.

Shame you're on the left coast, or I'd offer to come get the Dunlops from you if you didn't want 'em.

+1,000 on the stock exhaust. I had an aftermarket pipe on mine for a while, but put the stocker back on. This bike begs to be ridden for days at a time, and the quiet of the stock muffler is very nice to sit over for hundreds and hundreds of miles.

You're gonna love the bike. Have fun!

Farkles on my '06 Uly...I don't regret any of them:

KN filter, Drummer exhaust, American Sport Bike Direct Link MAP, cut up '06 air box,
Drummer catch can, side bags, front fender, right side scoop, Vista Cruise throttle lock, tank bag, black chin spoiler middle section, underseat bag, Aprilla mirrors, moved horn, wired both lights on, dipstick temp. gauge, dash mounted LED voltage monitor, 2010 rear wheel, FS belt tensioner, tall windshield with palmer brackets

Hey Steve, how are you doing? :-)

What's the comfort kit I see mentioned? How about soft bags? Is there an underseat bag? Is there a Buell bag that hooks to the handlebars?

There is(was) both an underseat bag, and a handlebar bag, yes. Both OEM accessories.

Comfort kit is a right side scoop and rear ductwork to keep heat out from under the seat; there's an ECM reflash as well that changes the fan logic. Many threads on that here.

Hey Barry,
Been doing fine and just working as usual.
I tried a handlebar bag but I found it a bit of a hassle for everyday commuting at gas-up time. I nice tank bag will be better and hold more stuff. The comfort kit will help a lot with heat issues. Without it the underseat pan gets quite hot on longer runs.
The factory luggage has worked fine for me but I think there are better options if youre going to pull the trigger for that expense. Look for a low seat if you don't have one already. It helps a lot for reaching the ground.
My wife finally snagged a job on the base down here and just moved in yesterday so we're getting used to the tight space in the RV here.
I've had problems with my 06 model not liking the short 7-mile commute and drastic temperature changes from the morning to the afternoons here in the desert. After two or three days I have to manually reset the AFV because it gets way out of whack and the bike runs terrible. Or I have to go out and ride for a few hours to get it back in tune.
Your 09 has the faster computer and should do much better in that respect. You're going to love riding that thing!

Sorry I have been so quiet online lately but not being able to hang with you guys has left me just lurking....Miss you all.

Farkles on mine:

Factory hard bags with inserts painted to match frame
Factory trunk with insert painted
Drummer exhaust
Race ECM
Open Air Box
K&N Filter
Zumo 550 GPS and Mount
Zero Gravity Large Windscreen (looks great works great)
Aprilia Tuono Mirrors (look awesome, function better than stock)
Rider comfort kit (I think came stock on yours)
Service Manual!
Bad Boy Air Horn (must for safety, no one can hear the stock horn)
Lyndall gold racing brake pads front and rear (better progression and feel, don't cause pulsing)
I also just recently went to Michelin Pilot Sport 3 tires that seem great so far. Had D616's on my bike for the first 16,500 miles and thought those were great too, especially in rain but to each his own.

Get to be www.americansportbike.com 's friend. Great site for farkleing : ).

I ran the stock Dunlop 616 tyres on my Uly before changing to Michelin PR2, but I found the Dunlops just fine in our wet and cool climate, never gave me cause for concern at all. Not say they are the very best tyres, time marches on, but they were just fine while I rode my '06 Uly on them.

Thanks for all the input...

Managed to pickup a FM and Parts Manual for 2009 XBs thanks to this message string and a BadWebber who had one.

Also just bought a set of factory bags and mounting hardware from a former Uly owner-- I made contact on the classified section of BadWeb.

I also picked up a Rider comfort kit on E-Bay, mine doesn't have one.

Now while I'm waiting for the PO and HD to get me the title I've got some bonding to do in the garage.
-plug for electric vest
-mount and wire in my Garmin GPS
-Rider comfort kit
-install bag mounts

On a side note or front if you prefer, I took the front fender off my S3T on Sunday. I thought it would be just a repair but both back tabs are broken off and I'm not sure I can fix it. Any multiple Buell owners out there with a spare S3 or X1 front fender you want to sell?

I loved the Dunlops that I put on when I pulled the Syncs off. I have a feeling the people who complain about them ran they way past the end of there life. I hear people talk about how the front tire follows cracks in the road after 10,000 miles.

But then I am not a street racer, but a Touring at safe speeds type rider so maybe I never pushed the tire to the point of felling the fear. (They also worked great during pouring rain storms)

Scorps work great but PR2s are just wonderful for handling and mileage. The problem with you USA guys is your straight line work. I have had lots of rubber in the past but NEVER, EVER got the same miles on rubber as with the Uly. I dont understand how it does it. I have never seen more than 5k on any bike before the Uly. Want more - buy some Iron hoops?

I've just switched from Syncs to PR2s and am very happy with the move. Too early to comment on wear but the Syncs were squaring off and causing the odd wobble at 4.5k miles.
The PR2s went on a 2010 rear wheel as both sets of bearings required replacement at 4.5k miles.
I've got Givi luggage with Fehling hardware. I like the cases but the oe hardware is much better designed and the Outdoorsman cases look particularly good. Unfortunately I have just priced up the metalwork for the Outdoorsman setup - here (UK) they come to almost $1k without any of the bolts/washers/nuts. With the cost of the cases on top of this I've decided to stick with what I have.
The Sebring exhaust is just a rebadged Remus. Probably the most popular aftermarket pipe in Europe. I have one on my '09 Uly and it is ok but not great. The EU spec ECM doesn't help though. With the baffles in it is pleasingly characterful without being too loud.
