My right grip (throttle side) on my '08 Uly no longer heats while on high. I've checked and there is power to the grip but apparently the grip has "burned out". Cold weather is coming and I really need both my grips working on high and low.

Can I buy just the grip(s), or do I need to buy the whole grip kit with the switch, wire harness, ect.

If someone here chimes in and works at a Buell dealer and can get me what I need I would love to do business with ya.

Thanks for any responses, advice or P/N's.

Jerry

Hi Jerry, I don't know about replacing with factory grips but I have it on my list to replace them both at some point. While I like having heated grips I really don't find the stock grips themselves comfortable. I've already corresponded with Al @ American Sport Bike about getting gels grips and new elements. He has everything needed to plug them right into the other existing hardware without having to do any real electrical work. Doesn't answer you question I know, but just thought I would share another option.

Thanks Froggy!!

I see on that pdf that there is a seperate P/N for each grip. I'll check with one of our sponsors about price and availability.

Thanks Schwara!!

I agree that the stock grips aren't all that, but I always wear sturdy gloves so it isn't too much of an issue for me. However, you hit the nail on the head by mentioning the desire for a plug and play option. I'll contact Al and check on price and availability and maybe try that route.

Thanks again guys!!

$70.40 retail but the bad news is that it's on backorder.
I would probably go aftermarket, I have a Buell set on my CR and they don't jet nearly a toasty as the cheap aftermarket wraparounds on the Uly.

Probably easy to retrofit polly heaters as well. They will be slower to heat, but should end up just about indestructable, and let you mount whatever grips you want.

Bill, did you ever make the controller for Poly's? If so, I'd be very interested.
If memory serves, you were going to make up come circuit boards or something...
It's been a while..

The OEM grips on my '09 XT get seriously hot - enough to be uncomfortable after a while on low in 40-50 degree rainy weather (which is a good thing, easy enough to switch them off). I imagine they'll stay on full-time when the temps drop below freezing though.

Yes. In (very early) discussions with a manufacturer / distributor. Its (finally) working really well. It turns out to be a very hard problem to solve.
