Its about time for a new rear tire on my uly. I am currently running the dunlop 616 but I would like something a little smoother.I really dont go offroad and most of my miles are commuting on the highway.I would like to find a higher mileage tire that can still handle the mountain curves. |

If you're going smooth, just get a sport-touring compound. I have been running Dunlop 220 tires on my X1 for some time. |

I'm nearing 20K on my Uly XT, 2 sets of Pirelli Diablo Stradas(discontinued) and currently have a set of Pirelli Angels on. Good rain tire, mainly highway commuting and some trips. Getting 7-8K+ out of the rears. |

I'm running a Dunlop D220 on the back of mine, and a D616 on the front. Those D220's are getting hard to find, though. I think they're discontinued. I had fun finding one for the rear on my 1125R. My recommendation of course is just about any good sport-touring tire will suffice as long as you stay on the pavement. |

I have recently mounted up a set of Michelin Pilot Road 3 tires and so far I have been really happy with them. I had them on while on a trip through Colorado and encountered some rain on mountain roads and the bike felt very stable and the wear appears to be minimal for the 3,000 miles I now have on them. There are several tire retailers having a sale on these right now so price is competitive. |

Pilot Road 2s - Got 14K miles out of the rear - 18K from front. Also: Very Good rain tire & sticky on pavement & in the twisties. I understand there are now PR 3s - but don't know anything about em. |

...But from Buellhusker's comments, they sound like they have the same longevity characteristics. |

I burned up my rear D616 pretty quickly, about 4.8K. I think I got near 8K with the Storms. Going to put a set of Road Smarts next. |

I've run the Storms and PR2s and LOVED them both. |

Haven't tried the Pilot Road 2 or 3 yer, but I've gotten more miles on my scorp trail than any tire I've had on either of my Buells by about 1k miles. Although it only has 5k on it so far, I'm kind of hard on tires. |

My PR2's are holding up nicely so far. I liked the scorpion syncs on the 9sx a lot (including knee dragging track days), but the Uly shreds them too quickly for my budget. |

well today I finally changed my rear Dunlop D616. I put 8000 miles on it but it was a used tire when I received it free so I'm guessing it had about 13,000 miles on it. I had to switch to the Dunlop Roadsmarts because the dealer had one in stock and he would have had to order the D616. We'll see how it works out on my Uly. I've heard good and bad reports on them but it was the only tire I could get today. The last 500 miles on my old D616 went really quick and I didn't have time to order a new one. I felt I was only a day or two from seeing the cords on it. |

Scorpion trails here. Love them. Plenty smooth and great in the rain and on the wet. Have them on my hyper also. Mine is a daily drive and backroad blaster. Haven't been to the dragon with them yet, but will soon fix that. |

I can't even imagine getting 8k miles out of a new tire, let alone a used one. I ran the dragon last Oct on a Shinko 705 loaded down with a weeks worth of gear with no issues. I would like something along the lines of a Michelin Anakee2. I had a mostly worn out one mounted for a couple weeks and it worked fine even in a 150, wish they would make a little bit wider one. |

Had pr2`s on earlier this summer but only got 6000 miles out of 2rears tires. 12000out of the front.likes the way the bike was so neutral cornering and stayed that way trail braking in corners. had the 190/50 120/70 combo. Had an unused Angel front and got a rear to match it with the e construction in 120/70 180/55 sizes mounted now. Traction is fine and they tip in a little faster but resist trail braking more than pr2`s . i`m hoping the e construction will make this rear last longer as I do a lot of loaded 2 up stuff. Just got back from the Black Hills. 827 miles 2 up on the Angels in 4 days. Beautiful riding out there and I only got whopped in the head once for spirited riding! got all the way to the edge of tread on rear but not the front. If the rear holds up longer Ill stick with em otherwise I`ll be back in the dual compound Michelins when these are done. |

After 39k and multiple tire types, I've had the best traction and life out of PR2s. |

Just put on a set of Scorpion Trails over the weekend. Got 11,000 out of my stock front Strada and 7,500 out of a PR2 on the back. Sure is nice to have new rubber on; didn't realize how bad the handling was getting. |

I really like the feel of the Pirelli Angels on my BMW RT (and wife's R). I have a totally unmatched set of tires that I plan on swapping in the next week with a set of Angels on the Uly. That should fix things for me for a bit. I did take the Uly into the dirt recently, and I wouldn't recommend the Syncs for that... I had a very tough time depending on how loose the dirt was. Wayne |

Has anyone tried the Pilot Road 3s on the Uly? I'm curious how its profile works on the Uly. My XT came with a new rear Pilot Power 2ct fitted and a worn-out front bridgestone. I'm probably going to put just a front PP 2ct to match on it, but I doubt they'll last long so I will probably be fitting some touring rubber soon. I've used Avon storms on other bikes and liked them quite well. All the sipping and wet weather accolades of the PR 3 has my interest though so I might try them. |

For cheap slab go with the shinko raven 009. Hard compound, good wear. Takes 100 miles to scrub in well. And on cold days it takes a little while to warm up, but over all best bang for the buck. I live on a dirt and gravel road, and they do okay when dry / damp, but can get hairy when it's wet out/ |

Shinko Ravens suck when compared to real tires IMHO |

Oh just not so! IMHO I am currently running Shinko Ravens, have close to 6000 miles on 'em, the front is hardly worn, the rear is maybe 75% done... Lasting better that the Dunlop 616 - smoother, more evenly wearing and just as sticky on the street as the Dunlop 616. Better street tire than the Dunlop 220 also. The Raven's are pretty good on dirt roads for a street tire, thanks to the deep wide chevron like grooves. |

I just put on some PR3s on my Uly. Unfortunately I only have about 150 miles on them, so I can't report on how they wear. So far, they feel as good as my Syncs did. |

like to try the pr3 someday but they are premium priced.lots of better prices on non current like pr2s or bridgestone bt-023s. My angels will get me to next summer though so for now im just shopping for the best wear for the buck. |

I decided to keep the Angels I have for my RT and put on the Scorpion Trails yesterday. Haven't ridden the Uly yet because I'm also doing some other services to it that needed it (brakes, oil, and primary conversion). I'll post up when I put the trails through some paces. Wayne |

I like the Scorpion Trail I just put on. Its a 190/55 but it fits great, handles better than the ContiMotion that was on there... No I just gotta save up for a front one to match. |

I was able to find a 180/55 for the rear. But for some reason, it was the hardest tire I've ever had to get on in my life... |

Try a 15" IRC knobby for a KX-60. I ripped the wires out of the bead without ever getting that &*&^%^ *&^^&&* *&^%%^^ on the (**&^&**(* *&^^%%^& rim. |

+1 on the Scorpion Trails. I've had mine on for about 300 miles and love 'em. Put a 190 on the rear; all I could find when I bought them. |

I've gone through 3 sets of 190 Scorpion Trails and love them. First set was mostly commuting with some solo touring in there and they lasted over 11k miles. Second set had 1600 miles of loaded 2up touring and the rest was VERY loaded solo touring; it lasted about 7k miles. My current set has 6k hard miles of VERY loaded solo touring, and looks like it'll last another couple thousand. The chip-seal roads of Alaska and northern Canada eat tires much quicker than the smooth asphalt around here. If I were to switch away from the Trails, the only other tire I'd consider for my riding would be the Pilot Road 3. |
