I created a virtual machine running XP on my Windows 7 laptop because I couldn't get ecmspy to work with Windows 7. Unfortunately, I can't get it to work on the virtual machine either. The application opens up just fine, but if I plug up to the ECM, it will not interface. It worked when it was installed on the XP machine.

Anyone have any tips?

It runs 100% fine on Windows 7, you do not need to use XP mode for it, that will probably cause more issues, I don't know if the VM functionality can even use devices like com and USB ports.

Open it with Windows 7, try and connect, let us know what error you are getting.

The program opens fine in W7, but would not see the ECM. When I have it scan the com ports, it freezes, and I have to force close it. I had made a virtual copy of my XP machine when I got the new laptop, so that is why I was trying the VM figuring there was some compatibility issue with W7.

I was going to try to uninstall and reinstall it last night, but I have misplaced the install disc. Should have made sure it worked when I first put in on the new laptop.

My ECMspy works fine on Windows 7 Ultimate. Make sure you always right-click on ECMspy and run as administrator in Windows 7.

Also take a look in control panel ==> programs ==> uninstall a program, and make sure you have the FTDI CDM Driver Package installed. I think this one will work: http://windows-driver-package-ftdi-cdm-driver-p.so ftware.informer.com/

I'm not sure if those two hints will help, but that's what I thought of first when I read your problem. Good luck, and let us know what you did to solve it.

Thanks for the tips. I am running as admin. I have the standard Windows Driver Package from Dell installed, but not the specific package you mention. I don't how or if they differ, but I'll give it a shot when I try to plug back up this weekend.
