Hey all, Recently purchased a 2007 Ulysses with 20000 miles on it. I absolutly love the bike and today took it on a 300 mile road trip. Ran perfectly all day. After stopping at the top of a pass and walking around, I started the bike and had a check engine light kick on. Shut it dow restarted and same thing. Being I was only 10 miles from my destination I rode there and it rode perfectly fine without any issues. The one thing I did check when I stopped was that the oil was low (below fill line) on the dipstick. Could this be the cause of the check engine light? I am away from my manual and pretty new to buells and air cooled Vtwins. I have a 300 mile return trip on sunday so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Best guess is it is your exhaust servo. They have plastic gears and break often, as well as run fine at moderate rpm's. Do a search to find out how to make a jumper wire and read the code. If that is the case, you should be fine to ride until you can replace it.

My very first CEL light was because of a dying battery (mine was 'pre-owned' when it came to live with me). On an '07, with that mileage, start with simple.

+1 on checking codes first tho

Well after a little more inspection today ended up being the fuse to the fan was blown. replaced and problems solved.

The fan doesn't like being soaked with the oil from the rear rockerbox. Take time to check it.

That's what looks like is happening, what's the fix on this? Clean up the fan, and where is this oil coming from? I can tear into it better when I get home bunjie not right now. I gotta say though this bike is fun!!!

Garrcano is right, it's probably coming from the rear rocker cover gasket. You have to rotate the engine to fix it and there is plenty of folks who have done this and said it's not that hard. I haven't had to yet but I have a manual just in case! Changing the gasket is easy, it's just getting to it. If the fan fails you could ride it anyway this time of year. As far as your oil level a lot of us have discovered the only way to get an accurate reading is to get it hot, leave it running, put the kickstand down on a level surface and remove the dipstick, wipe it off and screw it back in and then pull it and take a reading. It should be at the second X. The Dos Equis method. If you fill to the full line you will get oil in your air cleaner until the level goes down.
