After finishing a trip that covered around 120km of logging roads in BC. (Amazing ride, I'll post some pics soon). My headlights have thrown in the towel. The fuse is good. The bulbs are good. The connections under the flyscreen seem ok.Any suggestions??? Cheers. | ||

I just discovered that the connections that go to the actual bulb go bad too. My high beam keep flickering on and off... took it apart found very heavy corrosion on the connector the goes to the bulb, also seemed a bit melted? ..... check it out. ALSO i discovered that the connector from the main harness to the headlight sub-harness can become just loose enough to create an intermittent connection or no connection at all. Squeeze the 2 halves together to check....in my case it turned out to be one of the pins in the connector wasn't snapped into place %100 causing more headlight problems. | ||

I just got done fixing the headlight on my ULY after the Sturgis trip. The lights would go off when I turned the handlebars to the right. On mine it was as simple as fixing the broken ground wire at the steering head ground point. You'll have to remove the 3 screws that hold your head light assembly in place and swing it to the left or right so that you can check the bundle of wires that ground to the steering head. One of them will be for your head lights. Chances are it is broken and not making contact. Wiggle each ground wire with your lights in the ON position and see if your lights flicker on. The ground wire may even be hanging free, if so then touch it to ground and your lights will go on. Use a flashlight to have a good look-see. Fix the ground (assuming that is the problem) You got it from here, good luck. | ||

Thanks for the help. turns out it is the 4 pin connector underneath the flyscreen a couple of the wires seem to be loose. Not sure how to fix that, but at least I know what the problem is. | ||

try and push them into place. mine weren't snapped into place completely.... could be as simple as that. | ||

Also note that connector pins usually snap into the connector itself -- sometimes they aren't pushed in all the way, so after you disconnect the connector verify that the pins on both sides are seated all the way in the plastic connector body. | ||

on mine it was a bad ground wire in the head light circuit. Instead of cutting the harness all up, I just added a new ground, and spliced into the connector near the headlight. | ||

Looks like I have solved the problem, so far..... One of the pins on the headlight connector was loose, and even after I pushed it all the way in, it still would not click into place. I just cleaned up all the connections and bent the offending pin so it has a tighter connection. Thanks for all the input! |
