The last two bikes I bought off ebay were flops I'm hoping this one turns out better. 2009 KLR 650 The PO put all the Happy Trails stuff on it. Panniers Center stand Fork brace Skid plate  Going down to Iowa to pick it up on the 17th. Wish me Luck! | ||

I read they changed rings for 2009 and it fixed the oil consumption problems. I been thinking of selling my husky 250 to get one. Sure its not any better dirt bike then my f800, but it cost a lot less and I might not fear taking it places I would hate taking my bmw (for fear of dumping it). | ||

Thanks for the comments guys. It only has 3800 miles so I'm hoping it's OK. This will be my second KLR 650. I'm getting it so the Uly won't have to take as many beatings. | ||

As I have said before, I love the KLR! You know there tough, and this one looks good. Most KLR guys are pretty straight up, and are not out to screw anybody. Do the Doo! - And the sub frame upgrade, and, and..... | ||

Those KLRs are decent machines. Nothing flashy, straight forward single enduro with a kick butt large gas tank. That's basically what I have my barely-street-legal XR600 for to, though now I'm jonesin for a Honda XRV750, the Africa Twin! They quit making them in 2003 and were never sold in the USA. So very difficult to find. If anyone ever hears of one of those for sale in the USA, please let me know. | ||

The klr is a great machine!!! I have a Aztec red 2006. I bought it for $2400.00 with 2500 miles on it. It has been a great bike and i have put 2000 mile of serious off road on it. +1 on the doohickey and the sub-frame upgrade also check into fork upgrades as they are pure crap! I got a skid plate on it brush guards, and the huge IMS 7 gallon desert tank!! This bike is good at everything but not good at any 1 thing. I call it the "mule" The best thing is you can buy the 705cc jug kit for $399.00 and get 25% more power! | ||

I saw a fellow on ADvrider put XR650R forks on his KLR, this seems like it'd be a good upgrade. Of course it'd be better if they had the frame and motor attached  FWIW I got 5th overall ironman in vegas to reno last year on an essentially stock XR650R (suspension bone stock). | ||

I might just have to go over to Europe to get that bike Buewulf! Sounds like a good reason to go eh? Maybe some of our Uly friends can keep an eye open for me for a real cream puff. The big question is getting it licensed for the US. I heard that's a pain in the whatusi. | ||

Congrats on the ironman run bike_pilot,sounds like fun. I had a great time on the new 88 KLR 650 I had,man was that really 23 years ago! I heard of the do hicky thing and some ADV guys have a do hicky clinic here in the Twin Cities,I'll have to get in on that but what is the subframe thing? | ||

The big question is getting it licensed for the US. I heard that's a pain in the whatusi. I understand it is damn near impossible to bring a whole bike in. If you have money to blow, you can pony up and go through an importer. IIRC, cost is about $8000 including your EPA/DOT certs. Plus the cost of buying and shipping the bike, of course. I had a neighbor in Colorado that brought a Transalp over. He had owned the bike while living abroad. He removed the engine, wheels and fork from the chassis. and shipped the items in separate shipments before moving. They went through customs as "motorcycle parts" and he was able to assemble and register the bike in Colorado as a "kit" bike same way a custom chopper essentially gets treated. |
