Is there a part number for the fork seals available from a non-HD source? I know some Honda and Suzuki bikes use a 47mm showa inverted fork, are they the same when it comes to seals?

So easy to get from Al at American Sport Bike.

Yes, I normally do. But in a pinch, may need to get them locally and without access to the internet to purchase (or phone for that matter). I'm thinking "remote" locations where it is not easy to request from Al.

FWIW I've had great luck generally with using seals from another model on bikes where parts are hard to find or even just a bit less handy. I've a great local honda dealer so tend to put honda parts in everything. So far I've found that for a given diameter and make of fork seals/bushings have all been the same. Haven't tried it with a Uly yet (buying a uly today, just signed up here). I've put honda-labled showa seals and bushings in a Husqvarna, Kawasaki and Suzuki. I'll be putting a set in a Montesa this weekend.

My '01 Honda CR250R has 47mm Showa forks.

And the rub is that the CR250R has a different seal than the Uly (designed differently). I'm assuming it's a matter of whether it's a sport bike design or a off road design, but I don't know. That's why I'm asking......

I got mine from the Harley/Buell dealer for less than 3 bucks. I just reused the original dust seal and it has 34K miles on it and works just fine. Harley provides many jobs in this country so please get over your animus towards a great American company. Wouldn't American Sport Bike and the other Buell parts suppliers get their OEM parts wholesale from Harley anyway? Where else would they get these OEM parts?

I am not aminus to anything or anyone. I support more local / american jobs than anyone I know.

The idea that my comments leads anyone to believe I am trying to jip any american company is ridiculous. I am trying to find a source should I need it in a pinch.

How about straight from Showa (the manufacturer of the front shocks? Anyone got a source from them besides Harley (who most likely BUYS from them anyways). The reason I am trying to find an alternative, is that if HD happens to be 2 weeks out of parts (or maybe NEVER again will I get them), I'll have a source, should I need it. Or if I happen to be near an XXXX dealer instead of a Harley shop and they happen to have the part and I can easily get it.

This all started because my dealer seems to have problems getting the correct parts (even though they ordered them correctly) from Harley. I don't know all the specifics, but it seems someone should have these same shocks and be able to supply parts for them (especially seals).

I would guess that Harley buys them from Showa. I've never tried buying direct from Showa and I doubt you'll end up broken down on the road near Showa HQ. I do think that you could get them from somewhere other than HD though. Usually race tech, factory connection, gmd-computrack, traxion-dynamics, etc. all stock seals. Seems likely that they buy them directly.

As a matter of curiosity, how does the CR seal differ?

The CR seal doesn't have a "spring" in it. The buell seals have a spring to hold the seal around the shock. Hard to describe, but I hope I am being clear about the difference.
