Well I went into Albuquerque today to have lunch with Rubberdown's son, who is now a freshman at the University of New Mexico. We had a good time; Mike has raised a good family.

After lunch, I decided to see if I could find Dr. Greg. : ) I had no idea where things were located on the campus. The first place I found was the bookstore, so I went and hung out in the Mechanical Engineering section. No one was buying any ME books, so I couldn't ask them questions. I did buy this cool shirt:

I have no idea what a Lobo is, but I love the red and black.

But anyway, I wasn't getting any information at the book store, so I went outside and started asking random people if they knew where the Mechanical Engineering building was. No one did, but the 3rd person did tell me where the administration building was. So I went over there, and they managed to tell me a building that they said was next to the Mechanical Engineering building.

I walked across campus, into the ME building and asked for a professor named "Greg." They actually knew who I was talking about. Alas, you weren't in your office. I'd have enjoyed meeting you. But I did have a good time looking around campus.

Wow, I've been called creepy for doing similar in the past to track down girls I've met on the internet.

Dr. Greg has a stalker?

Man that guy lives a cool life - lots of cool bikes and wild adventures; now, he has his own stalker.

Dang! You shoulda let me know ahead of time!!

I'm usually in the ME Building on MWF. On Tues I do consulting with a medical robotics company in north Albuquerque, and on Thursday I'm down at my research office in UNM Science & Technology Park.

Double dang! Always glad to meet/talk about bikes...

Well, glad you had a good visit. I've been working at UNM for 35 years. Long time.

PS. As usual, it'll be a long football season for Lobo fans. Good thing I'm an alumnus of a couple school with decent football programs so I can enjoy the fall.

Jlnance,
You look like you could be a Dr.Greg offspring. He does get around on those bikes of his you know. Better opt for a DNA test.

The people here are fantastic. I had lunch in Sante Fe with a few people from ADV, only one of whom I had met before. Lunch was good, the company was good. I left there for Las Vegas. About 30 miles past Albuquerque, the rear tire disintegrated.

I called AAA, and as I waited for them to come get me, I texted the people I had had lunch with. The phone rings, "Do you need us to come get you." It's Carol. She is amongst other things, a race mechanic, which would be great, but she is on the far side of Sante Fe. I don't want her to make a 300 mile round trip to get me, so I tell her I'm good. Then Cathy calls, "Do you need me to get a tire?" At this point I think the dealer is going to put a tire on for me, and she is in Sante Fe too, so I tell her no.

But the dealer thing falls through; the tow is taking a long time to get there, and I'm not going to make it to the dealer before closing. I call Cathy back and tell her I do in fact need a tire. She looks around. They don't have one in Sante Fe, but the dealer I'm getting towed to has one. She dispatches one of her friends, who doesn't ride, over to pick it up.

I get deposited in the parking lot about 5 minutes after closing. Sammi is there with the tire. She tells me Cathy is on the way from Sante Fe, and Adam is coming up from Socorro. That's about 50 miles for both of them, so we have to wait a bit. I wait with the bike, and she runs to get food.

Everyone arrives at the dealership. It's about 7:00. We roll the bike up in front of the door because it's flat. Then we start do the work.

Sammi goes for beer, and that apparently helps. Adam doesn't have a tire changer, but he has done this before. Notwithstanding almost putting it on backwards. : ) We are using soapy water, tire irons, and C clamps.

The security guard comes over after a while. His son races motorcross, so he is well versed in tire changes. He asks us to hide the beer so the cops don't see it. He gives Adam a few tips on chain tension for Vstroms.

We are done about 9:00. I take a test ride and come back alive, so it's pronounced good. Sammi has Elk roast cooking at home. We all go to her place for dinner. Adam and I swim in her pool while she cooks for us. I'm crashed out on an air mattress in her basement as I type this.

It was a great ending to a story that could have had a lot of bad endings.

That's how people in NM are! Socorro is 75 miles south of ABQ so Adam would have driven more than 100 miles to help you : )

Wow, what a saga...dunno whether to give you my condolences or congratulations. Sure good to have people like that helping you out! Hope you make it the rest of the way home uneventfully...

Man that guy lives a cool life - lots of cool bikes and wild adventures...

Man, I needed to hear that. Life has been getting a bit much lately (yeah, even with the Milledue); the BadWeB community to the rescue!

You look like you could be a Dr.Greg offspring. He does get around on those bikes of his you know. Better opt for a DNA test.

Y'know, for a minute I thought that was a pic of my second son Keith (he's 6-2, 175) standing by the refrigerator...you sure we didn't merge in the gene pool a few generations ago?

Thanks for the story. Sorry (again) we didn't hook up, but sure sounds like you DID hook up with some good folks.

We just got home from a long trip and we stayed in Albuquerque and Socorro on the way in. I never imagined that Socorro had Buell folks! Very enjoyable stop at Satellite Coffee and Fan Tang restaurant in Nob Hill area in Albuquerque and Socorro Springs Brewery in Socorro. We walked around the New Mexico Tech campus in Socorro before heading out through Bernardo, Mountainair, and Ft. Sumner. I thought about Dr. Greg and kind of remember that being a favorite route of his, I think. Beautiful Country! Great folks helping you out there!

I'll be in Albuquerque in October to visit my first grandchild for the first time. My son is stationed there with the Air Force. To bad I have to fly there. My son says Albuquerque is a great town. Sound like there are some good people in NM as well.
