I've got an '08 Uly XT that's coming up on 20K miles. Any opinions on changing rear wheel bearings as a precaution? I wasn't sure after what I've read about folks having trouble.

Thanks, think this fall when I do the 20K I'll do the bearings just in case. ounce of prevention I guess.

My '08 came with the red/orange seals and at the 1st tire change I installed the black seal bearings as a precaution, that was at about 6,000 miles. Now have 15,000 and no problems.

I bought the 2010 wheel from American Sport Bike. Paid Al to install the bearings and seals. Don't have to worry about it now... or ever.

I had over 20k, trouble free, miles on the rear wheel when, due to good fortune, I was able to upgrade to the 2010 wheel.
The front bearings are original and have over 24k miles.

Your mileage may vary.

If the bearings check out good, no way would I even consider swapping them. You'll only induce more wear on the wheels, and you may very well be swapping good bearings for worse ones.

I lost the OEM bearings to water intrusion at ~30k mi. Replaced them (orange seals) and ran them another 30k. Installed black seals at 60k. Cleaned and repacked the orange seals and reinstalled them at 90k. Cleaned and repacked the black seals and have them on the shelf. I may pull the orange seals for inspection before another 30k passes just to see how they are. I'm not too worried about repeated removal/installation hurting anything.
FWIW I packed them with Chevron EP-2 grease cause it's very available to me

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll take the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" approach for now. I'll just have them looked at during the 20K.

Just buy a spare set and the spacer. Keep them in the garage. In the bag for long trips.
