Sorry if this has been asked before, but there are tons of Erik Buell Racing ECM threads out there. For everyone that has purchased the Erik Buell Racing Race ECM, did you notice any increase, decrease or no difference in your fuel economy? I am thinking of purchasing the Erik Buell Racing Race ECM from all of the rave reviews about it.

Small increase when I try to get fuel mileage. I don't ride for mileage just grins. About 6 or so extra mpg when I have tried. Your results may vary. I get about 28-30mpg driving for grins and about 42-46mpg when trying. 08 XT no bags just top case.

Svh, How do you ride for mileage? I Only know how to "grin factor" ride.

I seriously would love to get 46mpg

About 6 more here in mellow riding mode, 2 or 3 non highway mildly aggressive daily commute miles. Just buy it so you can say why didn't I get this before.

Ok cool thanks for the input guys. I also ride for grins on the weekend, but during the week I use my Uly for commuting back and forth to work. I am just trying to see if the gas mileage will increase which means the ECM will pay for itself in no time.

I would set my bike on fire if it got only 46. It gets 60 on a bad day, 75 best. Hell even my gas guzzling 1125R will easily pull 46. : )

I try to do my best Froggy impression and am very easy on the throttle and short shift. It is boring as hell. Which is why I don't do it very often just every once in awhile to see how good I can do. Normally doesn't last.

I would much prefer the bike to be getting 30mpg! I love this bike with the Erik Buelll Racing ECM! All of the hesitation and most of the time the cough is gone. I also burn through a rear tire every 5k miles but its the price to pay to ride the way I like to. I am also Froggy x2 aka 250# geared up which doesn't help mileage or tire wear.

I think if I tried I could do 55 plus. Will a vacuum gage work on a v-twin?

vacuum's vacuum. uses the intake manifold, not a cylinder. its negative pressure pulled against the backside of the throttle plate, thats' all. tap it into the top of the intake, route the hose, and go with it.

or mess with people - put in a vacuum/boost gauge ; )

back to the original post...i ride the crap out of my uly, with all three bags on it all the time. i'm a 6'4" sail, blocking wind. i have bar risers so i sit even taller. not being gentle and burning through rear tires at a regular 5k miles or less...i typically average 42. slabbing it actually gets me worse mileage - those bags cause a lot of airframe drag - but rocking the crap out of it on roads like the blue ridge parkway can net me in the 50s.

that said...power delivery is 1000% more refined than the stock computer and it will pull the front end up on its own at 6500 (that was a surprise, oops!), and my mileage actually increased by about 2mpg when i got the stock computer out of there. all in all? win-win. guaranteed.

(mine's an 06)

There already is a tap on the throttle body. I've just been too lazy to go install my gauge. Perhaps I'll put it on my 1125R.

What's the point of owning an American "sportbike" if you're not going to ride it like one? Why not get a scooter or moped that gets 100 mpg? I don't get it.

Froggy, Thats the one I wanted for my jeep. Where did you get it? It is the real trick to throttle control for me. I use a smaller one. I've got 44 mpg out of a Datson 1200, 24 mpg dodge ram 360 and auto, 19 mpg jeep tj auto.

I shoot for more than 12 inches during acceleration. Still quicker in the jeep than a tractor trailer does.

If I plumb it off the existing nipple, I'll know if a backfire uncovers the nipple.

I don't flog my "American" sportbike full time. But it is nice to know the power is on tap. I had a TW200 last year. Fun bike but nothing left in the tank when I wanted it.

Someday,

I see that you are from New Jersey. Try riding out west.

At times, fuel stops will dictate your route.

What's the point of questioning someone's desire to achieve high fuel mileage? If that is what they enjoy doing, that's reason enough. Besides, what you are apparently assuming, that Frank doesn't ever engage the full performance of his 1125 is likely dead wrong.

You don't have to go WOT in order to enjoy the handling of a sport bike.

I can never make it through an entire tank of fuel without horsing it, not even close.

Frank, do you ever tuck one arm behind to reduce drag? It makes a huge difference on a naked bike or one like the Uly with a small windscreen.

I do, I just save it for the track : )

Never tried that, but I often ride with one arm anyway. Due to the way I lie on the bike, my legs are over the rear pegs and my left arm is resting on the bar.

You will need a dealer to perform a TPS reset.

JC Whitney, I just failed to read the description, the thing is huge, its bigger than even the gas cap. I'll probably pick up a small boost gauge at Autozone.

An actual boost gauge may not work very well as they are designed to report greater than ambient pressure, not less than ambient.

OK, I found a 2" vacuum gauge at HarborFreight for $25 with a 270 degree sweep and 7 different led lightings to choose from 0 - 30 inches of mercury (in-Hg). The boost one is on sale for $20 but only goes up to 20 in-Hg and a shorter sweep for the usable range. They are both satin silver and white faced.

I have Autometer in the jeep. I'm not spending that much for something that will sit in the rain.
