Yea(!), the racks came in yesterday after ordering it on the 7th of June, after almost two months. OK, got it, it takes some time to ensure the product that is sent out is exactly the way it needs to be to fit the bike. This morning was the attempt to install the racks. The right rack went on easy after a bit of time to translate the instructions into english. So, with one side installed, I started the other side. Tried it by the instructions, then the front mount first, then the middle first. IT DOES NOT FIT. My blood pressure is up and I would think after the amount of time needed to send this thing out, IT SHOULD FIT. I like the boxes, I like the system, but come on, anyone else have these problems? |

I had forgotten by problems with these racks. Yes I too had the same problem 4 years ago. I guess that says Happy Trails is making a consistent product. Others had stated that they had little problems with the installation of the racks. I believe that one person said that he loosened up the mating parts on the Uly, put the rack on the bike and then tightened all of the bolts. Everything probably flexes as the bolts are tightened. I wanted to racks to fit without putting a strain on the bike. Steel versus cast aluminum wasn’t a test I wanted to try. Happy Trails suggested bending their racks to fit. I tried and failed. They then sent me a new rack bent slightly different loosely based on what I was telling them. I was able to get this rack to fit by reforming it more and drilling out the mounting holes. I was dealing with a guy named Jason. My long term issue with Happy Trails was how the design of the box and the box mounting system contribute to making a low speed crash much worst then it would have been with different bags/boxes/panniers. I have posted this before. |

Hi, I have happy trails on my bike also. I used the instructions the for factory racks which is in the shop manual. You may have to loosen the peg mounts, install racks and torque to spec. (use torque spec for the racks) I did not the first time and had to heli-coil after. I also had to loosen the tail mounts a touch to wiggle them into place. I hope this helps. |

Even when installing the factory racks, it helps GREATLY to loosen the 4 main bolts that mate the rear subframe to the main frame, so that there is a bit of play in the subframe. I could not get my factory racks installed without doing that first. |

It's been a while since I mounted my Happy Tails, but everything just seemed to need a little push or squeeze or tug, but once mounted and tightened, it was "perfect". I loved the bags, and the set up, an the quality was outstanding. Be patient, otherwise you'll end up one! |

Well, I'll give it another try today and see what happens. Thanks |

Toronto thanks for the advice. I removed the foot rest mount entirerly, Loosened every bolt I could find that connected the tail to the frame and then reinstalled it after mounting the rack. Looks great. But now I'm concerned about the tension at the mounting points. |

Hi, If you torque the bolts to spec and the parts fitment is not way out it should be okay. My two cents. I used the manual for the instructions and fitment specs, no problems and no cracks or breaks. The parts did not have to be forced or bent to fit, just loosened bolts and tightened her back up. I hope this helps. |
