http://goo.gl/ouDCR After at least 5 close inspections of my ECM over several months time, I think I found the source of the gremlins on my Uly. I gently pushed down on the gray ECM connector (kind of like my seat was doing), and in bright sunlight it revealed a crack. See the picture in the link above. Symptoms: - At first check engine lights, then engine misses. - After several months of the above symptoms, things got worse, I started getting intermittent tach jumps, misfires, loud backfires and engine stalls (I believe the backfires eventually contributed to my throttle body shaft breaking). I hope this information helps someone else in their troubleshooting. |

Yep. I found it doing the old Wiggle Test on the side of the road and was able to cycle the fuel pump on and off but couldn't believe something like that could actually be the culprit - it CAN'T be the ECM... Also, when the engine would die the fan would not come on. |

I looked at the connector and the seat base several times before I realized that they were touching slightly on my 08. I noticed the tiny crack on the ECM, just as you did but I was not having any problems, yet. I now have an Erik Buell Racing ECM and keep the old one as a spare in the trunk. |

Thanks for those pictures, that will really help somebody. I did the play-doh thing with mine yesterday.... seat contact. That's an 07 with the comfort kit and spacer. |
