If you wanted to go south I know that 38 between Reedsport and Elkton (where my parents live) then 138 to Sutherlin is a beautiful ride.
I haven't done the Roseburg to Coquille road yet but am tempted for the next time I'm up there (next summer). Riding on 101 is always great if you can avoid the summer RV traffic.
If you go, post pics!

Paul56,that is some beautiful area you mentioned, but it's a little too far south for me on this trip as I'm going to do 3-4hr loops around the Seaside/Astoria area..I will be making another trip in the area you mentioned probably next year..There are some gorgeous roads in oregon!...Take care...Tim

You will be going right past me on your way to Portland. I'm swamped at work right now but if you need anything on the way by, I'm in the B.R.A.N.

Cross over to the Washington side of the Columbia River and run SR14 for a more rural (no cops) ride that's just about as quick.

The ride from Portland to the beach is much more fun than the actual beach. Many routes to choose from. I love rippin up and down those mountains!

The weather is hot and the best swimming hole in the state is on the Wilson River Hwy (hwy6? 8?) at the 21 mile marker. Locals call it "21 hole". Note that the actual mile marker will not be there so look for 22 and go 1 mile further.

a couple of weeks ago I rode from Vegas to Portland...and later to Astoria. 202 from Jewell to Astoria is nice...but a little rough in places. If you get to wander about Baker City...I'd second the roads in the area in a heartbeat!

Here's the Uly ...midway between the Idaho border and Baker City...

Have fun!

Best road in Oregon for twisties that I've been on so far......HWY 245 near Baker City.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Route_245

Carlton to Beaver is an awesome ride.....just be sure to turn onto Bald Mountain Access Rd (not marked) or you'll have 6 miles of gravel to ride.

I'd ride Hwy 14 in WA as well, much more relaxing of a ride.

Hwy 242 McKenzie Hwy from Sisters to Clear Lake towards Eugene or Salem is one amazing Hwy.

Also there is a series of single lane paved roads that connect most Pass Hwy's. The Loop from detroit Lake to Estacada on the 46 road is also amazing.

Took that HWY 242 route a few years back out of Eugene (headed to Boise, ID). Seriously worth the time if you have it.

Then dropped down in to Bend on 20 and took it all the way to I-84 and in to Meridian and Boise, stopping at the Sierra Trading Post Outlet store along the way.

Take gas with you or top off frequently. IIRC, HWY 20 got pretty sparse after a while.

Some awesome roads down that way, I was just down last weekend for the family reunion. If you like it tight and twisty be sure to check out Hwy 47 between Clatskanie and Mist, and Hwy 53 which cuts from 101 just south of Nehalem up to Hwy 26. If you're heading north or south between Astoria and Seaside take Lewis and Clark Rd, nice twistys through the countryside that bypass the RV choked and not terribly scenic stretch of 101 between the two towns.

avoid 101 in the summer at all cost or your view will be the back of a leaky rv.
