This kind of depends on circumstance since who wouldn't keep their ULY in a garage instead of outside. I only ask because in the Marines my bike at the time was outside year round. Then in college my bike was outside for years on end. I assume my ULY runs much better being in a garage most every night. It has so far been a very reliable bike. Of course I keep on top of the maintenance much better than when I had to do the fixing outside. The rain and snow takes it's toll on bikes. Plus I haven't had my bike stolen or worried about it being stolen in my garage. Outside bikes are the target of thieves.

My mind is as sharp as an eraser. I just remembered back when my bikes(pre-ULY) spent every night outside, open to thievery and the elements. I certainly haven't gotten any younger though but fortunately the bank account has grown.

My bikes are usually parked outside because the motor for the garage door broke, so it takes effort to put them inside.

I don't have a garage, so in my 7 years of riding, my 4 bikes have all been outdoors on the street in front of my house, under covers. It sucks. The tires get gunked up with road debris, leaves and twigs from rainstorms, salt, sand, etc. My Harley's wheels need a lot of attention to prevent corrosion. And I'm sure my neighbors love the look of four lumpy things parked in a row. Brings up the property values.

Plus, after awhile, those covers stop being waterproof and you find water seeping in. The Hog has corrosion spots here and there that have to be dealt with. The upside is that, even though it's a 2007, it looks more like a 1977, which improves the cred.

Another annoyance: being on a slight hill. Supposedly, a strong windstorm blew my Uly over and it slightly dented my neighbor's bumper. So far no lawsuit or calls from my insurance company.

Working on the bikes in the street is a serious pain as well. In and out of the house, back and forth, getting tools, beverages, more tools, more beverages... I've thought of creating a way of riding them up onto the yard and into the back, but it's just not worth it right now.

I dream of the day when I have a garage with everything within reach (tools, fridge, TV, radio). We're keeping our eyes out, but it sure is nice having a cheap mortgage.

Oh, and no real problems with the bikes despite being out in the elements for their whole lives, other than the cleaning issue.

Parked in the garage at night when at home, inside next to the generator when at work.

My bikes are garaged, but the Uly has been exposed to many, many storms while camping or otherwise parked for extended periods. Including one ferocious hail/thunderstorm that dented the crap out of my wife's car, Uly completely unscathed. The only issue after the hail storm was the crappy horn switch wanted to stay on during key up in a packed parking lot till enough "jiggling" broke contact. Second time I've had that problem, other was after a Uly nap session.......again in a busy MC dealer parking lot. Uly craves attention......

IMO the Uly weathers the environment quite well.

I have a 1/2 acre, my bikes sleep in a 10x12 steel shed at the end of the lot. I want a 3-car garage.

Have riden in heavy rain for 40 miles at over 90 m/h and was lime on rail really stable and precise handling only issue was soaked feet.

Garage for the Uly, but didn't always have one for the FXR, had to make do with a shed once or twice. . . Agree with having the protection from thieves and the elements, and as long as the wife has room for her car, I get the rest. . .

But I do commute on the Uly in the winter, so it gets its share of road and weather grime. . .

I came back from an extended time in the bush while in the 2nd Force Recon Marines and someone had left a note saying that they knew who had backed into my bike. Needless to say that I looked that particular jarhead up and he payed for the broken mirror and lever.

I've had a CB900 stolen that was parked outside my apartment years ago before married bliss. I got that bike back after a few days. All busted up though.

Room mate in college backed into my bike and it took some doing to get the piker to fess up and pay for the damage.

Now I've got 5 bikes and a Prius stuffed into a long single garage. Safe and sound.

At least for the past 17 years my bikes have always been garage parked. Before then, they've always been out in the weather under a cover or in some ramshackle lawn implement shed. Corrosion has never been an issue because I kept my bikes well maintained and somebody was always nice enough to have a place to store my bikes over the winter before I got a garage of my own.

Mine is supposed to be garaged.....
Damn Little Kid used it last night after I went to bed to go 100 mile to see his girlfriend.

I looked for it in the morning in the garage and it was gone, I figured he had it because he was jonesing to go see her last night before I went to bed, he was asking when I needed my car in the morning...

So I get home from work and the Uly is STILL sitting outside! Wife is worring that I stress too much so we spent the night at a hotel tonight.
One more beer....and then my seriously stupid posts will start.

Wish I had a garage, have a two car carport though. Uly sits in the back corner, covered and tender hooked up if it's going to be there more than a few days.

Hey 7873jake,

Can we see a close up of the hand guards and some info - those look pretty sweet.

Thanks

Garaged at home. Under a cover at work. Sunlight is hell on everything exposed to it (except plants).

Had my Uly for only a few months now but always garaged except when I ride to work, then I try to at least find her some shade. By the look of her I think the original owner always had her outside (09 w 19.5 K when I got her). There are still hard to reach places that I haven't gotten scrubbed clean yet.

Sunlight is hell on plants as well if not watered.

Ours are garaged at home. Not always the case when on the road, but so far so good. My niece is not in the greatest hood in the twin ports, but the covered Uly fared well when I hung out with her.

Rule of thumb for wives and bikes. Keep 'em covered except when in use.

Johnboy,

Those are the stock hand guards with Whelan TIRs (TIR 3's, iirc).

I took a Dremel to the left and right sides of the lights in order to make them fit the contours of the guards. (The police kit came with bezels that would allow for that but I didn't feel like chasing them down and paying for them like they were hen's teeth.) Behind the left guard is a switch to change them from solid to flashers.

I know, I know, its useless w/o pics. I'll try to get some and start a new thread this week.

Currently I have a 95 Z-28, an 08 1125R(Loretta) and an 09 Uly.

The Camaro lives outside and the bikes and my tools live in the 2-car garage.

Great question. I've been in my current house for five years and have the bliss of a three car garage. I can park my wife's car, my truck, and five motorcycles in my garage. Now that my son is headed off to college, we're seriously considering down-sizing. Every place we've looked at has only a two car garage. I guess the truck is back outside. ; )
