Just one short and maybe stupid question. While taking everything apart, can I remove the front ECM bolt, or will I lose the nut? Might have been asked a 1.000 times, but I can`t find it.  | ||

You can remove it...but it's a bitch to put back in. Most folks loosen it, and swivel the ecm out of the way. I went a little further and changed the front bolt/nut to a stud permanently mounted to the pan. ECM goes in, nut goes on top of ECM. | ||

the nut drops to just behind the fan. i found it there 3 times. i ended up disconnecting the shock from the top mount and jacking up the bike to get enough clearance to fit my hand up in there. my wife's fingers were shorter and my kids were too distracted at the time. now that i've read up on it some, it sounds like i should have left it off and tucked the ECM in next to the battery. even with the block, rider's weight can still crack the ECM connectors | ||

All you have to do is heat up the plastic shroud with a heat gun or hair dryer and then shove a screwdriver handle under it to create a space. Then tape the nut to your finger so you can hold that nut under the shroud in that space created by the screwdriver handle. Turn the ECM screw into the nut and tighten. You certainly don't need to dismantle your bike to do this simple task. I've done both my ULY and my son's this way without a problem. | ||

Harleywern, Losing the nut is not a big deal, my comfort kit included a new nut. Plus, it is a common "ny-loc" (sic?) nut. Holding it in place while you thread the bolt from the top can be a pain. I have seen magnetic finger mechanics gloves for sale that would help hold the nut. Also, one of the guys on this forum put a magnet on the tip of his index finger. He held the magnet in place with a rubber glove. That sure beat my idea of taping the nut to my finger. | ||

I did it both times with a piece of wadded up tape that stuck to my middle (long finger) and to the nut. I've read so much on this problem of getting that nut back in place and it really is no problem. You just have to heat up the shroud plastic enough so it is malleable. | ||

I used a zip tie around ecm to the shroud. I knew if I tried to do it "right" I'd break something. Let yourself (and the nut) go  Zip ties and Duct tape are all you really need |
