Anyone done the breather reroute on a 2010 (XB12X) model yet? Any reason I shouldn't?

I just did my '09 XT and it seems to be doing just fine. I still want to add a catch can though.

sorry, to clarify...

I have read all of the posts (and dissenting opinions to value of the breather reroute)... just wondering if any 2010'ers out there have tried this yet (not that the year should matter?)

""I have read all of the posts (and dissenting opinions to value of the breather reroute""

Am I missing something - how can there be dissenting views on running that oil/water crap directly into your intake to be burned in the combustion chamber.

If it wasn't for the EPA, why would anyone would run an engine that way.

...

thanks, ordered the parts from a sponsor today to do the catch-can reroute. (and mirrors). now the inevitable debate: do I replace the stock muffler so I can replace the ECM with an Erik Buell Racing unit.... hmmmm.....

I'm going to switch back to stock to see how it affects fuel economy, plus I don't want that crap being spewed into the atmosphere.

As for the ECM, do it regardless of your pipe, even stock.

Definitely ... it's not something required obviously but I love the performance and sound after upgrading with a Hawk performance muffler, K&N air filter, and race ECM. The ECM is probably a good purchase alone even. If you do the muffler just make sure to read up on them before hand ... some are loud ... some are not. I wanted something that would really set mine apart from a metric bike & that's what I've got. I love it.

Erik Buell Racing computer is awesome, even with a stock pipe.

Again....what's Erik's personal bike?

As for the breather re-route...I haven't done it, and I won't do it. Period. What's lubing your throttle plate if you do? This is a DRY throttle body, not a "wet" carburetor plate. Take away the crankcase vapor (that's VAPOR, not floods or drips or even sprays) and there is NOTHING to keep your throttle butterfly from binding.

Unless you have a pocket full of "happy thoughts". If that's good enough for you...good for you.

you can run the Erik Buell Racing ECM with a stock muffler? I was under the impression that they were programed (?) for specific exhaust flow, and hadn't come out with a 'stock muffler' build for 2010 yet. If I can run one on a stock muffler, I will certainly do so to clear up the low RPM stumbles. I have heard nothing but good from all of the ECM users so far. I'm not opposed to the muffler route also, but love to do longish trips and don't want to annoy myself. Has anyone run the Drummer Quiet Module Insert sold by one of the sponsors (and Drummer I assume)? If I read the exhaust shootout information correctly, the stock muffler put out about 116 dB, while the Drummer put out 123 dB. The QMI claims to drop it by 6 dB (almost down to stock levels. I might look at this to drop the noise back down during long trips...

I had a Drummer (good muffler, don't get me wrong) and the ol' Buell "Race" computer. Ditched the drummer when I started taking longer (read: Maryland, over Lake Michigan, to ET for homecoming, and back to MD in 3 days) trips. Got Erik Buell Racing to program a computer for me and will NEVER look back!

Rat,
Have you taken off your air cleaner, opened your butterfly, and looked down into your intake manifold lately? I had 12,400 miles on mine when when I did that after seeing the photos of Hughlysses intake tract and valves all gummed up. I couldn't believe how much oil residue buildup I already had. If there was that much buildup in the intake manifold how much was in the valve area? After seeing that I did the reroute out of the intake system. I wish I did it at "0" miles.
