Sadly after sitting in the shop for 11 months unable to fix it, Harley decided to buy back my bike. So now there's one less 2010 black XB12XT out there. I think I'm gonna see if I can pick up a Super Tenere when they get here , and for now I still have my tiger. |

Dave, is this the same thread I was reading where it would start to run bad, CEL would come on and die? That sucks. Do you know if they ever put an ECM in it? I hate to see a bike go to the crusher like that. It's only mechanical, someone should be able to fix it! It's not like they all do that! |

It probably wont go to the crusher, it may get resold at auction. |

Froggy, what are the chances the person who buys it at Auction shows up here asking for help I know in PA they have to notify you if a bike (or car) was a lemon buyback. My buddy bought a BMW R that was a buy back because the smart key kept unregistering and the bike kept locking itself in theft mode (I think it was a problem with all of them when they first came out?) BMW ended up coming out with an ECM update that fixed it, but my buddy still got a smoking deal. |

WTF??? they just gave up? Is it possible to follow the VIN to find out who ends up getting it? I'll wager it will be cheap and have the same problem as before. |

They couldn't fix it? Thats crazy. Its a machine, find the problem and fix what is wrong. Unless it is possessed of course. |

That is just wrong. I sounds like more of an effort could of been made. Hope it gets back in circulation.Good luck with whatever you get. How about another Uly? How many `10`s were made? Anyone know? |

No, you are in the UK, you don't count. I only have domestic numbers. |

I'll bet they didn't change out the wire harness. Or it could be as simple as the gas cap causing a vacuum against the fuel pump's efforts. As an retired engineer from AT&T, Lucent and Avaya I used to get calls from the manufacturing floor proclaiming that they had tried EVERYTHING to no avail. Sometimes I'd have just got home to get one of those calls. I'd say, "If you tried EVERYTHING then the problem would be already fixed". |

So is it possible to follow the VIN? I'm really curious as to what happens to this bike now. |

I agree EG. I work on computers all day, we had one here that was running the fan really high, like it was overheating. My co worker changed a dozen different components in it except the heat sink. It is a block of aluminum with fins on it, how could it fail right? Turns out this one has a gas filled heat pipe that helps wick heat away, and a hairline crack in the pipe let the gas out. Needless to say the replacement one solved the issue. I can't recall if they changed the harness on this bike, I know they did replace quite a bit though. Still it is something I would love to nip in the butt. |

Damn. I wish I would have pulled the trigger on the 2010 black CR that was on Ebay a year ago. Still stings even before I saw that only 10 were produced for domestic consumption. |

"I can't recall if they changed the harness on this bike, I know they did replace quite a bit though. Still it is something I would love to nip in the butt". It has been changed and by quite a lot as well. Just about everything now uses those "military grade" German electrical connectors. They make me smile because I know they will still be working when Dukes are a pile of rust. |

Hey, since it's may turn up here again why not post the SN so that we can recognize it before one of us buys it? It's owned by Harley now anyway, right? |

Sorry to inform you... If bike is bought back by H-D (not a dealer), it is not allowed to be sold. (PERIOD) One less 2010 XB12XT, sad day indeed. (Message edited by xb xp on July 22, 2011) |

I'm not sure where you got the information that Harley-Davidson can not sell bikes they buy back. That is either inaccurate or quite new. What is the source of your information? I have bought 2 motorcycles from Harley-Davidson, each for $1 as they can not give them away, that were "buy backs". I may need to tell Scott Miller that h broke the la ..... Nothing would please me more. |

By the way ..... And this is what I'd wager you are thinking of... The " buy back" must be clearly noted on the title. No reason or explanation....just that it was bought back. |

Just checked with my buddy. He bought a 2005 (I think) BMW R1200. His is the first year for the chipped keys (anti theft system). The original owner got stuck several times when the bike would not start because the system would not register the keys. Dealer could not fix it. BMW bought it back. buddy bought it from the dealer for a great price (advertised on internet). the NJ title said something about lemon law or dealer buy back, but once he transferred it to PA where we live, the new title only says MC with no notes about lemon law. |
