I've had to re-dress the wiring in my harness in places around the ECM (was ruling out wire damage before determining my ECM was cracked), behind the fly screen and in other areas.

Anyone know of a replacement that closely resembles the OEM cloth tape?

7873jake, you might want to try this site too. Scroll down for the tapes. Centroplast makes the tape BMW uses on it's bikes.http://kufatec.com/index.php?main_page=products_al l&disp_order=1&page=35

I bought the cloth electrical tape at Menards. 3M Brand, Temflex 1755. When I used it, I could not tell where the old tape ended and the new tape started. Perfect match.

The only problem with using just any old tape might be it's ability to be fire retardant. Just sayin.

I thought that friction tape, like the kind used on our bikes, was cotton-based - that doesn't sound very fire retardant to me.

Jake,
I just googled "cloth wire harness tape". I have no experience in any of those tapes I listed. Only giving you places to investigate. Hopefully the stuff you ordered will do the trick.

I had come across a bunch of stuff on line but without the ability to see it up close, I was hesitant to jump in and start testing stuff.

I've worked with friction tape before on other work projects and kinda felt like when I realized that I coulda just done that.

I figured if anyone had gone this route before, surely someone here would know what to buy before I guinea pig'd this thing.
