Recent threads about Buellers who have been selling their Buells (Ulys and others) and buying Urals has got me thinking what if we didn't have the Ulys AND had a bigger garage (and perhaps a bigger budget, that'd be nice too). It's fun to dream. Using Peter Egan's idea of the ideal number of bikes, I think I'd narrow it down to the following five: 1. Ural Sidecar (Looks like so much fun, and can take off road and on crappy roads. A tank.) 2. Can Am Spyder touring model with trailer (to commute from FL to MN and to cart our little man around) 3. KLR 650 (off road. People on these always seem to be having sooo much fun and I have a blast doing demos on the many 200 cc dual sports we have in our training fleet here in MN. Makes me feel 14 again.) 4. Triumph Tiger (Brit bike. I do miss having a Triumph in the stall. This would replace the Uly.) 5. Ducati Multistrada (Just for kicks. This gets my blood pumping.) I realize three wheels is not for everyone, but as a Sidecar/Trike instructor, I'd love to have something of the three wheeled variety in my garage. In reality, we will prolly hack the beemer in the hopefully not too distant future. So, if you had the budget, room and desire for five non-Buell bikes, what would they be and why? |

Road King - I already have it. Makes 100 rear wheel HP, electronic cruise control, seat with backrest. Great for eating lots of freeway miles 2 up. Looks good. It's got 77k miles and is worth way more to me than I could ever sell it for. Ural Sidecar - take my dog fishing and camping off in the dark woods. Looks like you could fix it with duct tape and wire. Triumph Speed Triple - Take the place of the Uly as fast commuter bike. Triumph Sprint GT or Ninja 1000 or similar with bags - Fast sport touring rig I used to want an off road bike, but I'm too old and untalented to use it. I now do that with mountain bikes. |

I have five currently Uly STT YZ250 XR650R plated TW200 I can think of at least a dozen I'd like to add, really need to thin the herd though. As for the fascination with Urals two of my friends have them so I'm over it. |

Ratt, Can you get the Ariel Atom in the states? I was under the impression they might send you the parts, but that would be a huge project to put together. And what about individual States requirements for Safety and emissions? |

Here's what I've discovered... even with only three bikes, I can't ride them enough, but this is a dream things, so ... my current lineup is: * Uly * CR * BMW RT If I take the Uly out of the mix, that really leaves me without a bike for fireroads and the like, so my replacement would be: * 800 Tiger OR * 800 BMW GS I like the idea of the 1200GS, but having ridden one while my RT was getting some work done, it simply felt too much like my RT and I would want something different. I recently sat on the 800 Tiger and 800 GS, both seem very much the same in a lot of respects, so it would come down to a few test rides. IF money was no object, I'd toss out the CR and pick up the new 1190! |

I'm a nut for antiques, so my number one bike is any pre-1914 bike. Original condition. Preferably one made in Minnesota. Next, I'll agree with Jphish that a Vincent needs to be in the garage, but I'll take a Black Lightning - any year. Of course I'll need a Buell 1190RS. I too would like a side hack. Although I'll attach that to a 1936 Knuckle. |
