I bought an inversion table about 5 years ago and use it regularly to decompress my back. It really does the trick. Anyways, an unintended side benefit of hanging like a bat was that my knee pain went away. For a long time their (years) I thought I'd have to have an operation done on my left knee. My right knee had been operated on but would wake me up at night if it was in a bad position. That was how it was for me until I got that inversion table. In fact both my knees used make cracking and popping sounds when I'd come out of a deep knee bend and even that went away. I only pass this on because I know that many of you probably have aching knees. I said I've had that inversion table for 5 years and I noticed the knee pain reversal very soon after. Inversion probably rehydrates and maybe promotes blood flow into the cartilage that has very little blood flow.

I'm sure it also stretches it out, as opposed to the normal compression forces when you walk on them.

Interesting side effect...might have to see how my Ti legs would behave... : )

Those infomercials always claim that hanging upside down creates a vacuum on the discs causing them to draw in fluid, thereby replumping them up. Makes sense to me. Gravity and weight have the opposite affect, squeezing out moisture and as the years go by they dry out and you shrink. Hanging upside down takes some getting used to. I've been doing it for about 5 years and I've notices how much easier it is now then when I first got the inversion table. It was kind of painful at first when I'd get off the table but after doing it for so long I've noticed the change in my back for the better. It takes years to ruin your back so you can't expect overnight miracles, it takes awhile. The knee relief was pretty darn quick though.

I have one of the inversion tables also. I use it when my back is bound up or the muscles are in knots. I use it a lot more in the winter months, the summer I use the pool which alleviates the pain by taking the body's weight off from the spine.

Hadn't thought about the knees. I just happen to be going through a knee phase. I will be hanging for a while to try it, thanks.

Hmmm...interesting and timely thread for me as well. Never thought about the inversion tables as a potential knee pain help.

Been off the glucosomine/chondroitan for a while and occasionally hear/feel clicking in my knees when I am standing. The clicking sounds gross. Have knee problems running in the family, besides the supplements, dropping 20 or so pounds would be a help for me.

I`ve had 2 knee operations, and recently had 3 epidural shots in my back. Sciatica pain running down my leg, I could not drive more than a block. I have a friend who had back problems, and he uses an inversion table and swears by it. I have been feeling good lately, but I fear it will return. I also have a friend who swears that Yoga(don`t laugh) has made him feel the best he`s ever felt. As I age, and fall apart, I would consider doing what it takes to feel good. What brand/model are you using, Electra?

Just got back from 9 holes of golf. First time for the season and hit a 42.

My inversion table I had delivered to my door for 129 bucks but that was probably 5 years ago. The mechanism that holds your ankles is all important. Mine wasn't very comfortable so I modified mine by putting a solid metal shaft through with washers on the end so I could just hang from inversion boots that I've owned for probably 30 years.

My brother turned me on to inversion. My brother-in-laws also swear by them.

My folks recently bought an Ironman Inversion table and it is much like mine.
Just google "Ironman inversion table"

Here's a link
http://inversionusa.com/inversiontables.html?gclid =CLaH45jB7akCFQ8q7AodRH8xZA

Hanging upside down with inversion boots on an inversion table is the most comfortable that I've found.

I usually hang 30 to 40 minutes total. It takes some getting used. 15 or 20 minutes and then go level for 5 to ten minutes and then finish with another 15 to 20 minutes inverted like a bat. I read a book to make the time fly and have a clock near so I know how much time I've done. Falling asleep upside down freaks me out so I don't do that. If you are real young then your back will literally go pop pop pop like cracking your knuckles. Feels real good.

After suffering with back pain for many years I got a cheap inversion table $89 I think and it's been a life saver for me.
I don't use it that often but it sure helps.

I had a back operation back when I was 25 which was 30 years ago. Biggest mistake I ever made but I had been in pain for a few months and looked like skeletor because of it. I firmly believe that if I done inversion therapy I'd have been ok. I did buy my inversion boots at the time but would hang in the shed from a bar and felt that since it didn't immediately cure my herniated disk then it wasn't going to work. I know now that had I given it time it most likely have fixed me but at the time I was looking for instant cure. Inversion is like a fountain of youth for the spine. Gravity takes it toll daily and inversion reverses that. Laying down in bed every night actually relieves the effects of gravity but inversion is even better and is exactly the opposite of gravity. Vacuum instead of compression.

My model is InverHealth M-400. I really don't know if they're sold anymore. If you google "Inversion tables" there are many tables for
sale these days compared to 5 years ago. You can get a very good table for 200 bucks and there is no need to pay more than that unless you add in inversion boots like I've done.

There is good science behind inversion tables helping knees.
The magic juice in a knee is synovial fluid. That's the stuff that lubricates your joint, oxygenation and "cleaning" and shock absorption.
If you have a knee injury one of the things the PT will have you do is high repetition low weight leg presses. We're talking sets of 50 reps with weights in the 20-30lb range for a single leg. This loads and unloads the knee with minimal stress. The loading and unloading causes the synovial fluid to pump in and out of the knee joint. For a knee injury like a bone bruise it greatly speeds up the healing process (I found our first person if ya know what I mean). There isn't much blood flow in a knee joint so the synovial fluid does all the heavy lifting for oxygenation.
Inversion would really unload the knee and let the fluid circulate freely.

Wiki has a pretty good description of synovial fluid. My brother in law is a cracker jack PT, he explained what was going on when I messed up my knee. Made perfect sense when he explained it, really makes you appreciate the wonders of the human body.

Here's the Wiki link:

compare to using inversion tables supplements are best because those can give faster reaction on knee pain and gives fast relief from knee pain.Of course these tables can gives relief but it takes some time and it hard compare to taking supplement
