What are owners' recent experiences with parts availability? I purchased another bike after BMC was axed ONLY because I was concerned about parts availability. Now that "other" bike may have to go, and I'll be back to relying solely on the '06 Uly. So I thought I'd check into the parts situation...I've not had to buy anything for a while, so I don't know. Thanks very much for any info. --Doc | ||

It is still pretty much the same as it has been since the closing. Most parts are readily available, while a handful of things are on backorder, but no stock part is unobtainable. Around the same time as the closing, Harley closed down one of their part distribution centers and really screwed the pooch for both HD and Buell owners. | ||

I've had really good luck sourcing from multiple dealers as well as American Sport Bike. Everything in a week or less. The only thing I had an extended wait was my frame rail. But i figure that was a rarely stocked part. | ||

I have had no problems. My 2010 wheel and swingarm arrived in three days. Miscellaneous things like cables always arrive within a few days. My dealer stocks most simple maintenance items like clutch cover gaskets. In my experience, parts are not a problem. | ||

Had to replace my left lower fork leg and I had the part in 4 days. Faster than I expected. No problem so far Doc. | ||

Even though it's supposedly lower maintenance, it's still high $$ maintenance, considering my 25K miles/year (12K miles in the first three months till I hit the frost patch). 2. Can't do enough of the maintenance myself. 3. Not robust enough to little tipovers. Lotsa expensive Italian plastic pieces. 4. Lousy parts availability. 5. Lousy dealer (as I'm finding out). This summer absolutely SUCKS! The only reason I'm sane is that the '06 Uly (was relegated to my commuter, but soon to be my "everything" bike again  ) is still running great. Let's hope it doesn't eject a spark plug (rear, of course) on the way home tonight. --Doc PS. I even quit rooting for Ducati in MotoGP. Go Casey! | ||

Doc, You are the proverbial moth drawn back to the ULY flame. Welcome back. I've never had a Duck and wasn't enamored with the new multi when I saw it at the Duck dealer here in town. Just as you have found out for yourself, too damned complicated and those tools are pretty proud of their bike parts $$$$$$$ | ||

Welcome back, Greg. Good luck on selling the Multi. MAKE the summer stop sucking! It doesn't have to. It's totally in your control. Fortunately you had good insurance and it should let you walk away from your Multi(s) relatively unscathed financially AND more appreciative of your Uly. How cool is that! Ride the Uly, fix up the Multi for sale when the parts get in, and ENJOY the summer! It's good to have you back. | ||

It has a CHAIN, Froggy! Come on, Man, don't make us search for the many posts you have made knocking chains. Just 'nicely' say you were overly influenced by the deep red paint and didn't know how to back off the Multi love thing!  Our memories are short and all will be good again in Uly Nation! It has a chain, but it also has an electronically adjustable suspension, 150hp, different engine management programming to make the bike easier to ride in the city or make more power on the track, keyless ignition, adjustable windscreen, less maintenance than even my 1125R, ABS, traction control, and aluminum engine guard that doesn't rust. The chain is the least of my worries, my plan is to remove it and put on a belt. | ||

Hey, I'll admit to having a tough time, sometimes, deciphering between love and infatuation, but I'm pretty good at knowing when one or the other is present and I can pretty safely say that you are head over heels on this one, Froggy! Did you see the Multistrada dominated the motorcycle division with a new record this year at Pikes Peak? I read it was a dealer demo with Carlin Dunne (owner of the dealership) riding it. | ||

I love the multi for the same reasons as Froggy. I do like the tech, and love the power, but was worried about the maintenance. I need / want a bike I can do the maintenance on, and one that can handle being dropped with costing a ton. But hey, just another reason to wait for the AX! Like I have the money to but a multi anytime soon anyway... | ||

In my area at least, Duc services are no more expensive than BMW or Buell services. The fact that the Duc will go 2.4 times as long between major services means I will spend more time on the road with more money in my wallet. | ||

Since we all hijacked the thread.... I sold my uly and picked up an 09 KLR. I figured the Jeep of the motorcycle world will do for my dual sport needs. It can't even come close to the performance of the Uly riding the KLR, but I have managed to match the maintenance and comfort capabilities of the Uly. I'll post up some pics and mods sometime. I'm still rockin the ST1300 for consuming large quantities of miles in a sitting. | ||

Slowride, make sure you do the Thermo-bob mod, makes the engine temp much more stable. The doohickey is ok on the newer KLR's but the tensioning spring is way too long & will only adjust once or twice. Hey I still have one of my custom Stebel compact nautilus horn mounts left from when I made & sold them. PM me if interested. | ||

DR greg I told you the ghost of the Old Uly would chase away the fancy italian hussy! Italian women are unstable and Expensive. A good one from the upper midwest is much better. Oh and no crashing or you ll be on a Spyder! with a trailer for the folding Gurney. | ||
