Eventually... Apparently they said an updated 650 V-strom would be released last Saturday, then they said it would be today, and now they're saying it'll be on the 22nd. The only thing they've shown so far is some very out-of-focus photos. Long discussion thread here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69 3429 |

I like the Wee. It was my second choice behind the Uly. They're good bikes. |

I agree the Wee is a neat bike; I looked at them hard before I bought my Uly. I'm actually very interested to see what they've done to update it. The main rumor seems to be an 800 cc engine to compete with the latest mid-weight adventure bikes from Triumph and BMW. OTOH if I had any interest in buying one any time soon this hosed up "get ready..., no wait" ad campaign would have completely pissed me off. |

Here's some pics from the thread at ADVrider. Appears to be mainly cosmetic changes, but I like them. I'm sure there's more info up at Suzuki's website but I haven't had a chance to look yet.

Apparently there's nothing up at Suzuki.com yet apart from some teaser images. Photos were apparently "leaked"; motorcycle.com has the ones above plus more. Speculation is few technical changes. http://blog.motorcycle.com/2011/06/21/motorcycle-n ews/2012-suzuki-v-strom-650-leaked/ |

I appreciate what this guy is saying about the new V-Strom: by Suzukifan (not verified) - 06/22/2011 - 18:22 I don't understand your negative comments. First of all not everyone thinks it's a failure, me included. Adventure touring bikes are by nature ugly and I think the new Strom looks not bad at all. I don't think any of them are what most people would call lovely to look at but the people who buy them don't care. You're attacking the bike because it doesn't excite you like more expensive bikes that in your opinion are much better. So if Suzuki made the bike you think they should have it would cost as much as the Beemers, KTM's, Ducati's etc., and what would the rest of us purchase? Not everyone can afford Euro bikes that cost thousands more to purchase and hundreds more to insure. Ever taken a GS in for routine service? VStroms are as reliable as any adventure bike out there and will take you any place those other bikes will. I know of a rider who lives in my area that rides an early model DL1000 and has 300,000 kms on it and has never had to do a major service. Just scheduled maintenance. What more do you want? People who want every bike to have every last feature on them and weigh less than the previous model should think twice. If that were to happen I can guarantee that there would be a lot fewer bikes on the road and more than half of the bike dealerships in NA would be out of business. We're in a global recession people and bikes are toys nothing more. They're the first thing to go when money gets tight especially if they all cost as much as a Ducati or Beemer. I traded bikes and spent the day on a Wee last year - I liked it a lot. Very smooth, and great wind protection. Totally different than the Uly, but nice. |

I'll wait for Buell to come up with something, maybe a hybrid bike, and in the meantime I'll ride my 06' ULY into the ground. |

Interesting views on those last two pics. Those bags look H-B Journey-esque and Outdoorsman-esque. I wonder if they'll delay its release in NA like Yamaha has with the Super Tenere (reportedly b/c of ongoing disaster and recovery issues in Japan). Recently read where dealers were refunding deposits on the ST because the delivery dates were being pushed back deep in to the fall/winter. |

Looks like it is exactly what it should be... a decent economical alternative to an expensive adventure tourer. It wouldn't be my first choice. But it might be my second or third. |

""I'll wait for Buell to reveal what AX is..."" You may have a pretty long wait on your hands. No dealer distribution network, no fat checkbook or unlimited marketing resources like HD was giving him, and as we speak, the Buell name is being diluted by all those cheap –dirt cheap- Buell’s out there that are selling for less than a comparable Wee, for gosh sakes. Like MV, Erik Buell Racing is destined to be another boutique shop with very expensive and very limited models. His current street bike is selling for $40,000 and it’s pre-orders only. All the recent hype just seems like he’s trying to use PR to kick-start the company … good luck with that one. Waiting for an ‘AX’, will be like waiting for the Beatles to get back together. . |

"No dealer distribution network, no fat checkbook or unlimited marketing resources like HD was giving him" Most HD dealers stuck the bikes in the back of the store, out of view, and I NEVER saw any television ads for Buell. While it was probably much more than he had access to before it was by no means unlimited. He had to work around a lot of BS mandates and just when it seemed to all be coming together is when they decided it didn't fit the market they wanted to focus on. |

""and just when it seemed to all be coming together is when they decided it didn't fit the market they wanted to focus on."" +1 ...fate is cruel like that some times. The Rotax (maybe slightly retuned) would have made the perfect engine for the Uly. . |

Waiting for an ‘AX’, will be like waiting for the Beatles to get back together. Yes, but you have Erik Buell working on it, not a bunch of drug crazed musicians with egos to soothe..... |

I like the look of the Strom. Looks more like a sports turor. I don't understand why people bash it either. No Uly for sure, but nice. I think I'd like the 1000 instead of the 650, but the 650 is a great bike for what it is, at it's price point. I would love the wind protection it has. >>>Waiting for an ‘AX’, will be like waiting for the Beatles to get back together. Ah yes - "The great white wonder' - think i still got mine in the garage somewhere with Buffalo Springfield. Anyway..'wees' - When HD dumped us I started looking around. Test rode a vee & wee. Pretty well sorted, capable machines - but not the mojo of a Uly. My brother has a 6 yearold DL1000 - good performance & about 80,000 trouble free miles. Not too bad. |

What we own is a piece of American history. Had the Ulysses line continued, it would have evolved into the absolute best ADV bike in the world and it already has the best bang for the buck. Its the Vincent or Brough of our time. The Victory V92SC [SPORT CRUISER] was a similar bike but not nearly as well sorted out as the ULY. Enjoy them while they last. |

The problem is, there is no off-the-shelf bike that can replace the Uly. Maybe the MultiStrada, but the cost of entry and dealer network would be a deal breaker for me. Maybe Dr. Greg will chime in with regard to a comparison between the two. I imagine a Vee or Wee would need suspension upgrades to come any where close - which might be a good alternative based on pricing and dealer availability (which I think is important) Just a thought. . |

Why did you get a Uly in the first place then? The Multi is everything the Uly should of been, or would of became. It is superior to the Uly in every way, and it is only marginally more expensive. I have more Ducati dealers in a hour radius of me than Buell dealers. It is on my short list of bikes to purchase once I am no longer making payments on my Buells |

I will disagree that the Multi is "superior" to the Uly in every way. More technologically advanced in every way, but "superiority" is a bit subjective. For the many reasons stated here - http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/639441.html?1309203106 I will suggest that the Uly is still more versatile than the Multi and versatility, to me, counts a lot toward superiority. I don't think anyone taller than 5'-10" will be able to log the kind of miles, two-up, loaded with luggage, and in the same comfort on a Multi as you can on a Uly - and still do everything else so well. Just my opinion. |
