Going to deliver it to the new owner in Hamilton Ontario today.

It's going to a good home, as the new owner is very familiar with Buell and has been waiting for this opportunity.

After my last getoff, where I broke my femur I just wasn't comfortable getting back on it.

So I'm going to get a Ural side car rig, and maybe a used Sportster to give me the motorcycle thrill.

Thanks to all of you for the help I received on this board.

Pete, Wishing you the best in recovering from that nasty break. Looks like what you are doing makes sense from here.

I'm glad to have met and ridden with you. Amazing how these Ulysses motorcycles do these things for people.

No need to be a stranger here though!

I sure hope Dr, Greg is reading this.

Yes, he is following this thread very closely...

When I hit the deer at 72 mph and totaled the Uly (and sustained 3 fractures) I thought...well, I can't honestly remember.

Then I purchased the Ducati Multistrada 1200S when Buell was axed.

After hitting the frost patch at 65-odd mph and totaling the Multistrada (and walking away) I thought about getting a Ural sidecar rig, just like Pete. Prolly shoulda done that, but just couldn't convince myself.

After dang near totaling Multistrada 1200S #2 (and walking away again), maybe someone should give me Pete's phone number!

--Doc

PS. I actually do carry a first-aid kit with me. Only time I've used it was to extract a broken earplug...

Pete,
I can appreciate your desire for three wheels under our butt and the Ural does have a certain "cool factor", but why did you not support your economy and get one of these?

And I would think 40hp will get old very fast. But that's just me. That aside, the Ural does look like a hoot to ride, in a novelty sort of way. I would have ordered the accessory machine gun though.

I purposely choose a ride that had much less horsepower. That Bombardier machine looks like fun, but it's got no soul.

The more I ride the Ural the better I like it.

That said the big adjustment will be leaving a lot more time for longer trips

Greg, you've had some bad breaks, no doubt, but those are behind you. You're a good rider, an adventuresome rider, and what happened to you could happen to anyone. Best of luck to you on your repaired Multi.

Pete, Congrats on the Ural. Best of luck with it and with your leg. Good times ahead, Man!

Every time my wife (who also rides) sees the Urals, she says that she would love to have one. In fact, she would love to the have the military model that you bought Pete! : )

Congrats on not giving up on the ride. Regards of two, three wheels.

Yep, no one asked my opinion either but I think people riding spyders look totally groovy. Oh, and HAPPY! The person on a spyder SB on hwy 61 prolly thought, omg....no one on 2 wheels has ever waved that enthusiastically at me before.

Don't care, its all good...Different strokes.

If you pull a Spyder up on the hind wheel is it a wheelie or a wheelies? Hmmmm. I think I would go for a 4 wheeler if I could not ride my two wheeler...like a jeep with a V-8 or a convertible sports car. But no one asked my opinion either!

"If you pull a Spyder up on the hind wheel is it a wheelie or a wheelies?"

I'd pay good money to see someone do a wheely (on the back wheel) of a spyder.

Dunno man, it's not everyone's cup o tea, but those spyders and their Rotax power plants are pretty dreamy...

Jealous. My sisters friend has a doggie day care biz, and I've taken a shine to a yellow lab who would love to do a sidecar in Doggles. Maybe next summer...

Theres a fella near me that painted his spyder in ferrari red with the wheels to match. Beefed up motor and all. Sounds sweet and hauls azz. I just have a problem with three wheels and centrifugal force. I can't knock them cuz I have not ridden one. I would jump at the opportunity though.

As I've mentioned, not for everyone, but those spyders are darn groovy and fun machines for some of us. The customization is limited by the size of your pocket book and creativity. FUN! Count me in!!!

You have to learn to "monkey"'em around corners. Spyders, that is.

Had a dealer 'loan' me one for the better part of a day this past spring (Spyder, not Ural). I had the big Gold Wing-ish one, not the sportier version.

The seat is profoundly comfortable except that it is soft and you find yourself wanting to get out of it just to get air flow.

On roads that are heavily traveled by large trucks, the narrow(er) track/width of the Spyder makes it hunt in the lane as it tries to find which side of the hump in the middle of the lane it wants to ride on.

Spirited cornering tends to require more body english, or so it felt to me. Maybe I've been two-wheeling long enough to not notice whatever it is one must do to corner cleanly on two wheels so the flat cornering characteristics of the Spyder seem more taxing? It did eventually become more intuitive and comfortable.

I was surprised that the engine felt less robust than my Uly. I know its only a 900+cc engine and all but it didn't have the same liveliness I enjoy on the Uly.

For utility and comfort, I was smitten. Liked the stereo and integrated GPS system. Found the controls comfortable and well laid out except that the engine kill switch was easy to bump with gloves on and unintentionally kill the thing. Did this twice.

Having test ridden a new Kawi C14 within the last year, I'd have to say I liked that better than the Spyder if I were gonna add another ride to the garage. I liked the Spyder better when I thought about it as an alternative to a small convertible 'occassional' car like an old A-H bug eye Sprite or some such other fit of lunacy.

Down here, with our ratio of nearly-deads to newly-weds being around 27:1, the Spyder seems to allow some the chance to continue to ride without having to trike a Wing or Electra Glide and that is where I seem to notice them most often...as I get near the retirement communities.

I'm jealous of that Ural!! The Spyder might be cool, but it doesn't look like it has much off pavement capacity, and most importantly, I can take my dog with me on the sidecar!!

I have a friend who was in a serious auto accident 25 years ago, can't ride, walks with difficulty, but nothing slows him down

The side car was made for him

Man, I didn't know Ural makes a turbo model! Wow. Enjoy it.

I have a friend who owns three Spyders. When we ride together my bike becomes invisible to everyone we meet. The Spyder draws all the attention. He rides the snot out of it too. Keeping up with him on the Dragon is a challenge. For me anyway.
