For those of you who have done the tail/brake LED upgrade, how did you route the cable out of the trunk? Did any of you leave the reflective paper in?

Oldnotbold, there are some pics of how I did mine in this thread:

Also, I pulled the reflective paper out and put some shiny aluminum tape in place before installing the LED strips. It works quite well but might have been a little brighter in daylight if I had used silver or red reflectorized tape instead.

I ran the cable out the forward right corner (more or less). Added a pair of always 'hot' cigarette lighter sockets inside the case as well. Used a four pin trailer plug set to allow the case to be removed, power the LED's and it does double duty... unplug and the bike side hooks to a battery tender.
Left the paper 'reflector' in, sealed the lens top and sides to the case using silicone sealant. Believe I drilled weep holes to allow drainage if water ever got behind there.
Can't even go look. Left rear wheel bearing exploded, four days before the warranty ended... so after stuffing in a pair, I drove home 400 mile or so, and dropped off with my dealer. Almost two weeks already..

I ran the wire out the front left corner, inside the mounting hoop of the bracket if that makes sense. Its wired to a heated clothing plug; the mate to it is zip-tied to the lower support bracket for quick plug/unplug.

I gooped the plug hole with UltraBlack RTV to help keep water out.

I replaced the white with silver reflector tape.

I used a simple weatherpack connector, it sits here when not in use:

Plugged in:

Through a grommet in the front right bottom of the case:

Pretty bright SMD5050 led strips:

No need to change the paper, since the LEDs project out,and do not use the reflector. I ran 4 wires in the connector: ground, brake, 12V constant and an unused spare in case I get a great idea in the future! I use the constant wire to power another LED strip, connected through a mercury switch. It acts as a trunk light, turning on whenever I open the trunk- LOVE that feature the most!

I put a 6 pin trailer connector in the front left corner of the box so I could remove the trunk and tuck the plug securely under the seat. (I've yet to remove the trunk case since the install nearly 2 years ago)

Opted for a 6 pin so I could get ground/tail/brake/both signals/trunk light.
Never ended up putting turn signals back there. This reminds me I should really finish that project.

I used waterproof LED strips from oznium so didn't have to worry about keeping water out and as others have said, the LED strips only shine one direction so leaving the reflector strip in seemed pointless.

From a safety standpoint, I really like this mod. Any extra visibility is a good thing IMO. Also I might add, some have run the tail and brake light power wires to all LED strips with a resistor in line with the tail lights, so they get brighter when brakes are applied. I just wired each signal to separate LED strips.
