I had an insurance offer for my stolen Uly so I have just bought one of these

March 2010, 2600 miles (not even run in yet), fully traced history, mint condition, luggage, FST and the first owner was
(I kid you not) a little 70 year old man. I was going to wait for the insurance money but these 2010 bikes are as rare as rocking horse poo so I had to snap it up fast. I also got it from a BMW dealer at less than I would have from a private sale.

I rode it 80 miles home in bad rain, spray and cold (on the motorway) at 90 mph all the way. It was as solid as a rock even with the luggage on. No drama or problems it just purred along and never missed a beat. I was as happy as a pig in poo.

Points noted. The better turning circle and heated grips are great. The front suspension is a LOT better as is the steering (new design triple trees) which feels more natural. It has a lot more engine braking and it runs very smooth. The engine also seems to run cooler. Even after this run I could still hold my hand on the case covers. Something I could never do on my old bike even in the cold of winter. Wet boot soles do not slip off, unlike the old type which was a pain, the new black pegs.
I think the fan may be running on the move but I can not hear it and the whole bike is cool. No hot ass problems. I did not notice any effect with the luggage on the bike. The front brake is great but I do not think the the pads are OEM. The rear still needs better pads. The clutch seems much lighter but maybe its had a mod. I need to go over the bike.

I had my 06 bike sorted but this one is something else. That second 02 sensor, idle valve and the DDFI3 seems to have fixed all the problems. The first Uly I tested (HD dealer) ran like a Zombie on crack and they thought that was normal.

After only a quick look at the bike it seems that Buell had been hearing about the bikes problems and updated it to fix them. They even moved the battery negative to sub frame point.

This bike really is the "Uly of Ulys" and what the bike should have been from the start. I also think, with a few other changes, it would have made HD a lot of money. But then again what do I know.

I agree 100% with your assessment. Just about every single piece of the bike has been tweaked over the years, and the sum of everything is a fantastic motorcycle. Lots of little changes like Teflon coated clutch cable, different handle bars with clutch cable retainer, revised headlight reflectors, no more "77" connector issues and so on.

Hopefully Uly#2 lasts a bit longer than #1 before someone else decides they want it more than you.

revised headlight reflectors. Its odd you say that Froggy because even in daylight they looked brighter. I thought it was just me.

Yep! I could spend a day and a half naming all the little changes over the years, and still not get them all. The only thing they didn't fix was the rusty mufflers.

Would you expect something else from Hardly-Ableson? The Uly would of been a hoverbike by now if HD let Erik do as he pleased : )

Well you could call it luck but it could also be called "right place right time". Also I get good deals on E-Bay but it takes a lot of time finding them. If you find a good deal jump on it.

The trick with anything is to know what you want, how much it is worth and what you want to pay. I come from a money family but i am not a money head. Someone once said you need to let the other guy a margin on the deal. But greed has become a problem in the money markets. People only see the bottom line and not the future.

I do feel for EB because it is something I would wish to do. The problem, as he found, it is not so easy. If anything he has done an outstanding job and made some of the best bikes ever made.

Very happy for you brother. With the number of yanks riding Brit iron, I love that you're back on American iron. I think a force field should protect this one better. That comes stock on the 2010's right??

So the next question is what can you do to help prevent a repeat of what happened to your last Uly? You do NOT want that one to disappear.

"So the next question is what can you do to help prevent a repeat of what happened to your last Uly? You do NOT want that one to disappear." Very true.

Extra locks, second ground fixing and a radio pager alarm. Ha an alarm u say. Well this bike does not, yet, have a starting issue. Like none of that turning over problem. It winds up like a Jap four even from from stone cold.

I changed the rear pads to SBS sintered so it now works right. It came with a Piper air filter. The mirrors work now (?) and do not vibrate. The oil cooler now gets hot, which on my old bike it never seemed to do, so that would help a lot with cooling. The fan does run at 15 mph plus but I can not hear it even without ear plugs so thats fine. Its warm now but the fan does not come on at standing or in traffic but the engine is not getting as hot for the same conditions as it did on my old bike. I have packed out the front header nuts, to stop rusting of the threads, so removal will be easy next time around.

A couple of things though. The side stand is HUGE but its hard to get access to it on the bike. I may mod this. It is Very hard to get it into neutral once the bike is hot but the box and engine are still tight at the moment. The seat is harder than my old low seat. You can see the blue seal of the top head bearing with the bike parked up. This could be a issue with rain so I may do something about that. Its not a big deal though. Rain leaves the black finish looking a mess. I will think on that one. The clutch lever span is the same and huge. I have a mod for that but still do not understand why it does not have an adjustable lever as standard.

All in all a dam fine machine and MUCH better than my old bike. The new front end is the bit I like most. It also looks better with the black finish. It only came with the AKE belt and not the AKF version. You cant have it all I guess.
