More technologically advanced, my eye. Different yes but they both burn fossil fuel. Now show me an electric/ice hybrid bike and that would be advanced in my opinion. Or, a solar or fusion bike would be an advancement. A bike, like the WeeStrom with a rear muffler, regular dual rotor disc brake is not as even advanced as our ULY. Just because it comes from the rising sun doesn't mean squat.

Parts Availability
and Dealer (Support) Availability ...those are my criteria, and pretty much in that order.

The rider creates the adventure - bikes are simply the tool that's used.

Bikes are bikes.

If reliability is your first concern, the the Vee may be your bike. Everything I have heard about them indicates great reliability. I think the bikes in the photos look better than the current Stroms, but looks are subjective. I hope my Uly XT lasts a long long time. My next bike will either be a sport tourer or maybe even a bagger type. For now my XT is my sport tourer. But then it seems I have turned even my FXDX into some sort of tourer, having fairly recently done a Bun Burner 1500 on it.

Maybe Froggy is right. But "superior" ?...superior at what price?

There's a point at which all of that electronic crap which controls everything becomes a liability ... especially on a bike, which is more maintenance intensive than a car to begin with.

When that crap starts to fail, then what? Cart the damn thing to your Ducati dealer? Then pay for all of that advanced design and shipping from across the pond?

I'm biased though, I like to ride, not tinker with the bike. I dig simplicity; the Multi seems like the antichrist of simplicity, even 'if' it may be superior.

I'm surprised at Frank. The one parameter he is very hot on, the Uly would trounce the Duc, fuel efficiency.

Pretty cool looking bike. I like all the computer stuff, the wind protection, and I thought I read the fuel was in the frame. Going back to a 650 would be the only concern for me. After getting really comfortable with a 1200. I am intrigued by the braking system. How is ABS on a bike? I do know those Suzuki's run for ever. Just wish they were releasing an 1100 or something larger. I had a "spirited" discussion today with a guy who parked next to me at the library with an 01 KLR 650. His contention was The Uly was mediocre on gravel at best and horrible on dirt. Having owned both I would take the Uly all day over a KLR. The 650 engine just didn't do it for me.
