So I finally bit the bullet and ordered my 6mm Erik Buell Racing rotor and mounting kit, should be here in the next couple days. My question is, are there any tricks/secrets I need to know? I have the manual and have done this kind of thing before, although not on this bike. Front axle is reverse threaded, yes?

Front axle is reverse threaded, yes. They put a big arrow on the fork to remind you : )

Follow the book. All will be well. Oh, and throw away the springs, you don't need them with the Erik Buell Racing mounts. If your Erik Buell Racing kit comes without the instruction sheet, let me know. I scanned a copy of mine, I think.

If you have a 3/8 drive impact wrench it sure will help with the removal of the torx bolts. Works so much better than a hand ratchet.

It is a good thing you are doing!

Seems like it was a little tricky to figure out the right order to install the mounting hardware; the pics were small and/or unclear. I'm sure Erik Buell Racing or someone here can clarify if you're in doubt.

when you take off the stock rotor, note if there is oxidation around the torx screws that hold it on. i noticed this on my uly with less than8k miles and makes me wonder what is happening there. must be some movement or flexing, so sooner or later a retorque or replacement must be required. instructions would be very important there as well as torque values. rent a torque wrench if you dont have a good one!

Well, it is here. Instructions on the mounting kit don't look too bad. Not sure when I'll have time to install it and the EBC pads I ordered(begin throwing stones now), but I'm greatly looking forward to it, and hope that this, the fifth disc to live on my bike in 33k miles, will finally put a long term end to pulsing.

Quick question-is there any need to clean the disc with brake cleaner prior to installation?

I think that's always a good idea. There may be cutting oil or similar left on the surface from the machining operations when they were making it. It certainly can't hurt.

Yes, always clean the disk prior to final install on the bike to get rid of any oils or contaminates.

Mark, I doubt you need it, but if you need help or want company while installing, let me know.

Wayne-

Can you hold the front end up while I work?

I'm gonna have to get creative with a jack to get the front wheel off the ground....

Actually, I have all the stuff to get the bike up off the ground for you. I have to do this to change tires. Give me a shout (let me know if you don't have my number).
