My kickstand has always felt a bit sloppy to me, does this look like a healthy amount of "play" for my kickstand??

The bolt to the engine case are solid, as is the kickstand pivot bolt...

That's how I feel- been like that since I bought the bike, but after riding the wifey's XB9S this week I realized how much more sloppy it is than hers! My biggest concern is when I ride with full luggage- I mount it like a horse, standing on the left peg to step over. I'd hate for it to collapse on me then!

I'd be more worried about the missing primary case cover along with the necessary internal parts. Just kidding!

Mine's feeling a little loosy goosey as well, and does not seem to spring back like it used to. Got some general purpose lubricant when we were in NC, might have helped a little.

Had I been thinking, I prolly should have checked it out when it was still on the trailer, but noooooooo, I just wanted to get it down toot sweet so I could take it for a spin in this awesome cooler MN weather!

Andy-I'm in town for the next couple more days at least, hope we can meet up. B.

Some play is pretty common, yours looks to be within a reasonable range.

The mount, however, is not as solid as you think. Re-run the video and watch the oil bead that is in the gap between the mounting plate and the case bosses. There be movement.

Good catch Mark. After seeing that, I think I'll check my kickstand mount.

You only have to "worry" if you have play between the mount bracket and the engine case. There are three bolts that hold the base to the engine and they have been known to stretch.

Not good.

I replaced mine at around 5k miles as PM, with grade 8 bolts from Home Depot and some red loctite. They're now on my "critical fasteners" list at service time - clean, check torque, mark with a paint dot for a quick-glance-reference.

I do see the play, but the bolts are tight. You are seeing flew in the mounting plate. I'm more concerned with the slop in the pivot bolt. Thanks for all your input.

B- what's your week like? I need to put the Uly back together, but Sam and I need a ride!

My bolt broke on my Bolt.......I drilled out the 5/16-18, and tapped for a 3/8-16, and made a new bolt. My threads are tight, and the diameters in for the body of the bolt are correct, and it still wobbles like that. I would pull the kick stand bolt, and look at it now and then. Make sure it's not failing.

Ratbuell, I would disagree with your statement regarding only worrying about the 3 bolts on the mounting plate. I have no hardware left to hold the kickstand in place and the hole in the kickstand has been elongated so much it will just pop off whenever it pleases.

The hardware I am refering to is at the pivot point, not the 3 bolts. Those are fine.

I noticed some considerable play in the sidestand of my 2007 Uly and fixed it using shims from aluminum Coke cans. It took 3 thickneses as I recall.
