I'd like to put a low seat on my 06 Uly. I'm looking for the good and bad from guys who have them or have tried one.

What are your dimensions?

Here's why I ask: I'm 6'3" 235 #s and didn't know that I could love my Uly more buy replacing the low seat with the tall seat. Sold the low seat and have never looked back.

I'm 5'11", 32" inseam, and like my low seat compared to the stock 06 tall seat. Besides the distance-to-ground benefit, I seem to be able to slide around easier on the low seat. It's a different material. The saddle is alot more "firm" than the tall seat, but I'm pretty active on my footpegs when I ride so the comfort factor doesn't bother me.

my two cents;
i measure same as uly dude and weigh 185. i use the tall stock seat after trying low one. the low one makes me feel like im inching forward rather than sitting upright so the tall seat is more confy especially on long rides.BUT, the reach factor is a problem with 32 inch inseams so i manufactured a lowering ring for my rear shock, no other mods and i love it. the ring lowers it almost an inch and it was well worth the 40 buks it cost me. fab´d it out of steel on a lathe, its heavier than it needs to be but works great. someday i will paint it tho.

I'm 5'10'' with a 32 inseam. Reaching the ground doesn't bother me I just feel like I'm sitting up too high when riding it. I took the seat off all together and took it for a spin and liked it better.

Gringo I like the the lowering deal that you made for the shock. I have a lathe so I could turn something like that up. did you turn it and then cut it in half with a band saw to get it into place? Also do you notice any handling difference since you lost some shock travel?

hope we aint jackin this thread since the subject is same.
what i did was take the steel ring that is already there, and explain to the machinist that i wanted duplicate it in form but with the smaller end closed, put a top on it so to speak, with a 25mm hole in it. then, yes, cut it in half for installation. i chose to make the walls 2mm thick which is overkill, 1 to 1.5 is plenty.
40 buks, rides the same but i feel a lot more stable especially off road and in tricky situations.
while youré messin with that shock, DO NOT mess with the slotted "screw" on the bottom of the shock. its some sort of valve, left hand threads, and easy to break, leave it alone till someone tells us what the heck it is / does. (my machinist had to make one of them too)

My XT came with the lower seat. I switched it out for the tall seat. It's flatter, and thus more comfortable, at least for me.
I'm 6', with a 30" inseam, and about 235 lbs.

Have an 09 XT that came with the 07+ seat, not bad but I am not extremely thrilled with it. On longer rides I have to keep pushing myself back into the seat and I have hot spots after 150 miles. Tried my buddies 'low seat', that one hurt after 5 miles, the typical hot spots were flaming pokers of death by the time I got to the second intersection. Actually looking for an 06 or prior seat to try out, they are a bit flatter up front and a bit softer from what I hear. Am trying to avoid having to go the custom route. BTW, I am 5'9" on a tall day with a 31" inseam.

I'm 5'8" with a 30" inseam. I've tried all three seats, and the one that I prefer is the '06 Low seat.There are people whose opinion I respect that prefer one of the other seats. I've come to the conclusion that seat comfort is a very personal thing. For me, the '06 Low seat is comfortable enough for 700+ mile days.

My arse seems to be pretty tough. I never have problems with comfort even on my KTM off road bikes which everyone complained about. I just feel like I'm way to high as if the center of gravity is too tall. I like to feel more of a part of the bike when riding. That being said the bike handles really well and feels very planted.
