The rev limiter kicks in at 115 MPH if you are in 4th gear.

If you are going 120 MPH, and see a cop, you can only get it slowed to 83 MPH by the time he sees you.

And no, he didn't pull me over just to get a closer look at my Ulysses, I found that out because that was the first thing I asked him.

So what did he clock you at?

I know my Uly only trips the "you're going too fast" highway sign about ten feet out, traveling ...well, too fast ; ) And that includes my 2# of titanium in my legs (which any TSA agent or airport security station will tell you, is VERY radar-visible!).

Had a cop pull me over, was clocked at 80. It was at night and he said I was going too fast to get the gun on me because he wasn't paying attention. Figured I'd be long gone and he wouldn't catch me. But I slowed down and he finally caught up with me.

Thing was, I never saw him. Was just wanting a high speed burst / run, then shut it down on my own. Then I saw the blue lights. Cop was cool about the whole deal. Gave me a city ordinance ticket for non attentive driving, because I told him the truth. First decent night to ride in a long time, and I wanted a little speed run, and wasn't paying attention to how fast I was going. Worked off the city fine through communittee service, and it never went on my record.

About 9 months or so later, he gets me again, after we had, had bad weather for a while. Says: "Didn't I pull you over last year for the same thing?" I said Yeah, And he let me go with a warning... Good Cop - 2 donuts! ; )

The officers in this area really have been good to me. I've gotten more tickets here, because I wasn't used to 55mph after driving all my life in CA. Here you can actually talk with them a little, and I have been given more warnings than tickets. Being courtious and polite really does pay off around here. Not True In Others Places Though.... YMMV!!!

I was two-up rolling out of the quaint Chesapeake Bay village of Oxford, MD one hot day a few year ago when I came to the final stretch of 25mph before it turned 35mph...I could see the sign up ahead. Unfortunately for me, that last stretch was also a sharp left-hander...I couldn't resist getting on the gas, leaning it over, and speeding through the curve toward that 35mph sign up ahead. Also unfortunately, up ahead was the local constable driving back into town. He had me in a second.

I was polite and cooperative, my girlfriend was cute and blonde, and the cop was nice. He still gave me a ticket for doing 30-something in the last 30 yards of a 25mph zone. He told me to show up in court and he'd put in a good word for me with Da Judge, who would probably lower the fine and waive any points.

I did take the day off and went to court a couple months later...drove the 3 hours out there in a jacket and tie (the only defendant wearing one, by the way), and planned to deliver a heartfelt speech of contrition and sworn statements that I don't normally speed in small towns (which is true - I speed everywhere else ). Instead, all the moving violators were hustled quickly through the procedings with no real time to say anything but "I'm normally a good driver...I don't intend to do this again." The cop was indeed there, but only gave me some half-hearted "he was cooperative...no problems with the interdiction". What!? That's it?!

No points, court costs of $40. It was worth it. I treated myself to a nice leisurely lunch there in Easton, MD afterwards, spending much of the money I would have paid on the ticket.

Here is something that has gotten me out of several speeding tickets. Just be polite and cooperate and this works most the time. Also if you’re going 120mph like Swampy was it won’t work but for normal situations you have a chance.

When the officer asks for them, give him your DL and insurance card but pretend you can't find your vehicle registration. Carrying a registration is a throwback to a time before computerized records. No real need for it any more. If the officer isn't a jerk most times you'll get off being written up for not carrying your registration instead of the speeding ticket. That's a non-moving violation with no points and generally a $5.00 or $10.00 fine.

It's a win, win situation. You don't get popped for a couple of hundred bucks fine and the officer gets to prove to his/her sergeant he/she is being productive.

I got stopped at 6:00 on a Saturday morning, doing 80 in a 25 mph zone, (a little town called Wolverine MI.). The (young) deputy asked "whats the reason for the speed?" I told him "I didn't think you'd be there." he laughed, and then I told him it's a new motorcycle and no one is out here, I'm just breaking it in. after he checked the mileage, (and my driving record), he let me go with a warning. Then he said "I'm going to follow you for a while". 45 miles an hour, for the next 5 miles. I think I would rather have paid the fine. That speed, that distance, was pretty hard to do. most law enforcement are pretty decent people, you have to judge the situation, and the person, and use good judgement when you talk to them. (just the same as judging the riding conditions). That makes the ride fun.

I got Nailed for a 91 in a 55, and was asked if I saw him cause he was following me for something like a mile. I told him the mirrors shake too much on my bike to see anything behind me. He asked for my Reg and DL and then he noticed all the stuff strapped to the back of my seat and he said "Let me guess, its under their" Yup and he told me not to worry about it. He went off to check my DL then turned around and asked me why I was driving so damn fast, and I told him I was late for my follow up cancer appointment (which I was) and he told me to slow down, and he gave me my DL back. Glad he never went to check my record because it is bloody awful.

Rollin' to work one day on my 99 M2 (Molten Orange - not exactly "stealth"), trying to beat some horrid rainclouds to the tune of about 95 in a 55. Y'know...the purple clouds that scream "RUN AND HIDE" to bikers?

Tucked in, trying to crawl INto the tank...finally popped up so I could make a left, and saw strobes in the mirrors.

Uh...whoops.

Wave. Signal "I'm stopping". Don't get shot.

He pulls me on the median, where I'm trying to make my left. OK, no prob. Polite, engine off, "sorry, sir, was tucked out of the rain and couldn't see my mirrors, no sir, I had NO idea you were behind me for nearly three miles..." All honest answers. I felt about *this* big.

He takes my papers, gets in the cruiser, and there I sit. As one-inch raindrops begin to fall.

Hard.

Cruiser window opens. "You can get in the car, sir".

"Uh, thanks...front seat, or back?" with a weak half-ass smile.

I get in the front seat, he gives me a ticket for "unsafe lane change" because I didn't signal once and a guy tapped the brakes when I pulled in front of him. "The yellow form is an admission of guilt, send in a check based on the chart on the back. If you sign and send in the white form, it'll be a court date and I won't be there so the only thing the judge will hear is your side of the story..."

"so...you're saying I should send in the white form?"

"(sigh)....**IF** you send in the white form...."

"got it. White form. No prob. Thank you sir!"

It doesn't matter WHERE you are. Manners and patience will win the race. EVERY TIME.

I sent in the white form. $40 court costs, no points, no penalty, no officer.

As advertised.
