Well, after a couple weeks of consideration and countless hours of research (primarily right on this website) I decided that it was worth trading in my 2008 Kawasaki Versys for this 2008 BUELL Uly XB12XT. I closed the deal yesterday. I’ll admit, I’m a little worried about the reliability of the Uly vs. the Versys (ha ha “vs. the Versys”) but decided that there’s a price to pay to be awesome, and ride the bike that I originally wanted before I bought the Versys. The problem back then was the price tag on the Uly was $15K/ 18K out the door. I’m hoping this bike is going to run great for a long time and never leave me stranded. My primary reason for the switch is because I always wanted a bike that could perform great two-up, to hit the mountains, canyons, and very scenic road-trips with whatever female happens to be in the mood for an awesome adventure here in Southern Arizona. The Versys has been a great bike and never didn’t start nor ever left me stranded, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the same from this Ulysses.

Welcome to the nut factory! Try not to get cracked!

Good to have you with us. check out the new owners section if you haven't already. And 99% of your question have already been asked and answered around here. Search will become your friend. This is a great site, with tons, and tons of info. The Uly truly is a Very Versitile bike, as you will learn.

>>>but decided that there’s a price to pay to be awesome

Yes there is. But Awesomeness is what the Uly has in spades! - You'll find yourself going a tad more over the speed limit in an effort to experience this : p

Get the service manual and parts book if you haven't already. You are likely to become a Buell tech, boarding on mechanic whether you like it or not. Try to find the BUELL tool kit and buy one. Not the little one under the seat, but the one in a tool roll. It has the majority of what you'll need. Do a search for tool kits.

Belts, and Bearings are the most common issues. Lots of threads and info on those.

Have Fun!

Arizona Rider

I'm a new XT owner myself. I bought mine about 3 months ago and could not be happier with it. I'm averaging about 500 miles a week and every time I swing a leg over it, I'm just that much more happy. My only wish is that I was as good a rider as it is a motorcycle. You'll love your's in very short order too.

Have a great time and ride safe.

PS. Blue might be the fastest color but red handles the best...

You better hide the credit card or the farkeling will put a big dent in the balance! My daughter has an 09 versys and its quicker in a roll on than me and my uly. Granted she would be quicker on my uly too if we switched bikes, shes much lighter . The uly is great 2-upper, suspension can handle the extra load quite well, just dial in more preload and 1/4 turn more rebound and compression in the rear from your normal and carve the corners with confidence The manuals recommendations are very good for a base. Blue is very nice but the black ones are faster 19000 on mine and just getting warmed up! l8r, enjoy!

Congrats. Best bike I've ever owned. If you in the Vegas area give me a shout. Black is definitely the fastest. So fast it absorbs light rather than reflects it.

Many Thanks everyone! It turns out the owner’s manual was included inside the center saddle bag along with a sweet tank bag. I’ve had it two days and absolutely love it with no regrets! I’m aware of proper forum etiquette and promise to thoroughly search a topic before making a post. Not sure which color is the fastest but this Uly is certainly plenty. I’ll keep you all posted….Again, Thanks!

Congrats on finding your way to be awesome! You made my day with that statement!

Don't be too shy about asking questions. In reality if every one researched and used the search program to it's ends, the rest of us would be bored.

Ride on fellow Bueller!

I'm all about proper forum etiquette with a search before you ask and all, but I bet I can speak for other XT owners.

If you ask a question that has been answered before, we will have no issues giving you an answer quickly. We just loving talking about how much we love our bikes and what we have done with them.

14,500 since I rolled my '08 XT off the showroom floor. No regrets whatsoever. I ride it to work each day when weather permits.

My 08XT just turned 30K miles riding back from Road America. During the ride home, I was thinking how much I enjoy this bike. Even after looking at just about every bike made at RA, I cannot think of one to replace the XT.

Welcome to the madness, from a fellow Tucsonan(I grew up there). My 09 has been a joy for over 33k miles. Hope yours is as good.

FTG> Congrats, welcome and the icing on the cake is it's in blue, the fastest color!

That's almost right. Actually, blue's the ONLY color. For instance, that tint of blue that other folks call, "black" is really just a real dark blue. Of course, that other shade of blue that some people call, "white" is just a very light blue. The blue tint that others have been known to mistakenly call, "red", is just blue, but from 'way out in left field, somewhere. And the supposed "orange" is just blue, but from far right field.

See, blue's the only color.

Clay: As far a riding in Tucson goes, it does get a little warmish during the summer as you know, but with the comfort kit and a healthy strip of foam insulation tape between the seat and the frame on the right side, I rarely have much of a problem anymore. Well, that and an personal aversion to trivial stuff like reality.

Oh, and congrats! Incidentally, I don't know what you've heard about Tucson Harley/Buell, but on those occasions when I've had to use them, they've done all right by me. I've heard folks mutter that having to wait a whole week or two for parts, "was just unacceptable," but that always struck me as something of an over-reaction. Anyway, don't be nervous about using them, if you have to.

My '09 XB12X just turned over 45,000 miles. My youngest son (maybe) and I are planning a trip around the state in a couple of weeks, forest fires permitting. I may need to juggle the routing some, though.

Anyway, we're all here, and we all chip in with help, as we can.

Glad you could join the fun.

Bttrthnwrk,
Must be those age related cataracts where everything appears bluish.

'glider1997> age related cataracts

Ouch! Darn opthamologist already has me on eye vitamins (no, that's not vitamins made from eyes!).

'Course, maybe they'll help me see blue even BETTER!

Welcome! I just bought my Uly three months ago too and it truly is an awesome bike. Took to Rocky Mountain National Park and Moab and it did beautifully! The tread on the Pirelli wore out faster than I expected (7000 miles) and I had to replace the tire en route. Reading the Knowledge Vault area, this doesn't seem that unusual but I had the tires inspected by a local Harley dealer that still serviced Buells and they thought the tread would be fine... I also second buying the full toolkit. I bought one on e-bay for $70 and it came in handy when the shop I went to wasn't sure if they had the proper size tire tool to take off the rear tire. The Uly hooked me from the first ride and after my first long ride with it, I'm even more convinced!
