Author Message   Pontlee77 Posted on Sunday, May 29, 2011 - 02:12 pm:        Ok i'm going tot take the bike in to get the 06 springs changed for the 07, if i don't remember wrong oil level has to be at 172mm from top edge, when fork fully compressed, is that correct?   Electraglider_1997 Posted on Sunday, May 29, 2011 - 03:35 pm:        Pontlee77 The fork has to be fully compressed for the simple reason that you'd have one heck of a time measuring the fork oil level with the fork fully let down. Compressing it allows the oil to get close to the top of the upper fork lip for easier measuring. You really should do the work yourself so that you'd know it was done to book. And it is one more thing you'll then know how to do and save a few hrs of labor charges. The stock spring just lifts out. Then you change the oil and measure to the spec. Then after getting the right amount of oil in there is then the time you drop the 07 spring in there. Before you change out the springs. Try this if fork oil has the normal amount of oil in them at the moment. I added 10ml of heavy oil to each fork. This stopped that slight dive under braking, improved the front end on bumps/bends and feed back is great now. It worked great on my bike and not felt the need to change the springs myself. If you are a bit on the light side 5ml may be enough but you can always use more if needed. Not more than 10ml though and you MUST set/re-set the suspension right. Also bounce the forks so the oil is mixed ok. Its easy and cheap to do. 30 mins, 5 USD and if you do not like it just get the springs changed.   Pontlee77 Posted on Wednesday, June 01, 2011 - 10:37 am:        Thank you for the reply Uly_man, but i got the springs a couple of years ago, and they have been sitting un open for that time so as this week it's raining it's a good moment to do the change, but i'll keep your idea in mind in case i feel it to soft. I'm sure somebody will pipe in that I'm way off base but in thinking about Ronmold's question I'm not sure it matters which end is up or down. The weaker end of the spring will be the first to compress whether it is located top or bottom. Uly_man, I like your way of thinking.
