So I just got back from my first 5 day trip on the XT and it performed flawlessly! Also this was the first time I have taken the XT on a trip with a larger group of riders and I had no idea how much attention this bike gets. I spent most of my time answering question about the bike and its performance.

So for some time now my bike has been hard starting and/or slow starting.

First I checked the battery and all was well so I installed this,
(Three color 12 volt LED)

I have used it on other bikes and found it to work really well.

Then I found this thread, which describes the same issues I was having.

I started thinking it was just a ULY thing. Then last night on my way home I noticed my lights dimmed, there was a loss of power and my 12 volt led went red for a couple of seconds and them back to green. It did this several times before getting home. So I started trouble shooting while I was on the bike, turning off the GPS, moving wires around and bouncing on the seat trying to see what was causing this.

Once home I found this thread, which described exactly what my bike was doing.

(Momentary electrical shutdown 09XT)

My ECM was replaced last year and was relocated at the same time, just because I had a previous problem I was expecting the same thing again. However after inspecting the ECU, there seemed to be no issue.

So first thing first, I tightened my battery connections and I noticed that they were a little loose. So just to double check, I started the bike and it fired right up! I mean it fired up quicker than I ever remember.

So after a 40 mile ride duplicating the ride the night before, there have been no issues at all. It is actually odd how well it starts.

So check those connections before you question everything else.

Do you have star washers on your battery connections? should have them on the top and bottom of the cable lugs. Those will help the bolt from coming loose and give a better connection.
