My Uly shakes less than the current world economy, will probably last better and IS worth more than HSBC. |

Yep, that's normal, but the bike smoothes right out when he gets rolling. Kind of like your Uly vibrates like a "honeymoon bed" at idle, and smoothes out once underway.
My Uly vibrates at idle way more than my '06 HD Super Glide did. |

That's not 'tight', that's 'cheap'. A tight guy might buy the least expensive beer but he wouldn't try to stick the other guy with the tab. A 'cheap' guy would.  |

Thanks everybody for all the input. I hope you'll allow me not to say what the bike is, but If you're considering a sport touring bike to replace your Ulysses, PM me and I'll spill my guts. I'm sure you all understand that I just won't allow myself to be that internet know-it-all that trashes other people’s bikes (but it’s not a Harley).
Electraglider: The Rotella works real well, but I change it every three thousand and never ride in extreme conditions. I live in a small town so there’s no traffic to cause excess idling, and I don’t ride much when the air temperature gets above 95 degrees. If I did either of these, or if I were taking the bike on a long trip, I think I’d obey the manual and go with 20w 50.
I’m afraid I have to stick with the plan to sell the Ulysses for two reasons. The first is I just need to honor a promise. The other is that this deal has implications that go beyond the Ulysses. That is, I also ride dirt bikes, so between the two I’m almost always thinking about my next bike or actively shopping for the next bike or doing some kind of upgrade. So in order to avoid civil unrest, I need to tread very lightly and predictably when it comes to new bike purchases.
A few people mentioned the Multistrada. I took a long test ride on one and it was great. The bike felt very planted and stable. The adjustable windshield was nice and did a pretty good job and the engine was powerful. I’d still pick the Ulysses engine though. The Multistrada’s is way more sensitive to gear selection and won’t lug like the Ulysses – well I guess nothing really does. I’d have bought if the sticker price hadn’t scared me off. Jeez, the stripper is $15,000. If anybody wants one though, Hall’s Cycles in Springfield Illinois has a 2010 model and they offered it to me at a considerable discount. I guess I should have bought it. |

Sounds like a K-Bimmer?
I rented an older one (probably a 2005) for a few days in Colorado. Lots of fun and superfast, but I had to curl my shanks around the bike to get my feet to the controls...I would end my days feeling like I had shin splints! I might be too tall for it, but I'd have to modify that if I ever bought one. |

Hooper, you might on to something. A know someone who bought the highend Connie last year and complained about the ergo compared to his Uly. hhhmm..... He sold the Connie and now has a BMW in it's place. Still has the Uly too. |

If you're keeping the sport tourer, don't be too hard on it yet. You might just need to get used to it. I used to have a Honda ST1100, and every spring for the first few rides I would find that my wrists got sore a bit from the slight forward lean. After a few rides, my wrists got stronger (?) and the riding position was quite comfortable.
As for the buzziness of the handlebars, maybe some bar end weights or different handgrips would do wonders.
A few years ago, my brother who had only owned a cruiser before, bought a Honda ST1300. At first he was thinking a lot like you seem to be - that he had made a HUGE mistake, and he was ready to sell it. But I convinced him to stick it out for a bit, and he now loves the bike. He just needed to get used to the differences a bit. |
