I was wondering if anyone had a part number for the Hepco Journey bags latch (the plastic POS that holds the bag shut). Yeah yeah I know American Sport Bike has them in stock, but I am on the wrong side of the country and shipping will be nearly 20 bucks on a 40 dollar part. Can anyone help me out? |

Chris, Try returning this broken part to your local H-D Dealer first for possible free replacement. I had both of my broken latches replaced under warranty with no receipt or date of purchase required from Hal's in New Berlin. (this was a while back, but they might still be doing this) |

Hey thanks a lot guys! Prowler, I just may have to try that out. I will hopefully be hitting up my dealer tonight. |

Backorder is murder on that part. You can get them directly from Hepco Becker. Worst design ever. |

Lousy weak design. I've had to replace one and learned my lesson to not force-close the bags with the latches. They'll just break under constant tension. Not mentioned for you old hands but for the newly initiated. Maybe not the greatest hard luggage but I still like them for their capacity and security. |

I got my Uly with both Journey and Outdoorsman side bags. Thought about selling the Journeys, but they are getting used a lot to get groceries. I usually bungee the handles together for insurance. Zack I just checked H-Dnet and that part no. shows active, no backorder, around 43 bucks MSRP (Message edited by zac4mac on May 08, 2011) |

I made a couple of buckle straps from pieces purchased at a craft store. Cost about $3, looks similar to the pic below. Great for piece of mind with our bags!

I decided on friday to bite the bullet and pay shipping from American Sport Bike. Dont get me wrong, I do love dealing with American Sport Bike, I just HATE paying for shipping. They had the part in stock so I figured I would come out ahead on the timeframe end of things. Andy- The way I am setting up the bike, those straps wont work for me (The TT has no grab handles). Of course I could always take a strap from handle to handle. Electraglider_1997 Yeah they are a poor design. I picked these bags up from a fellow badwebber with the latch already broken. I think one thing that may have contributed to its failure is the addition of a half inch rubber gasket on the bags. Ive never seen this gasket before on ANY hepco bags, but they do look factory so Im a little confused on that. |

If you made the straps longer, you could wrap it around the whole thing through the handle. You wouldn't need to have grab handles on the bike. |
