We have had a terrible winter/ spring so far here in Portland, even for us. It has rained 67 of the last 77 days. So when Sunday called for 70 degrees, we called Grandma to watch the kids and headed out. Had a route planned that put us out in Gales Creek, the small town of 200 people I grew up in. I heard the house I grew up in had been renovated and I wanted to see it.
We headed out towards Hwy 210 going to Newberg and then turned toward Bald Peak. Had to pass some slow cagers to have the road to ourselves.
My wife had some fun with the camera

Then headed down towards the small town of Gaston with our sights on Haag Lake.

This guy was staring at us

We had to pass a few slow cagers to rip up the lake loop and when we stopped, my wifes first words were "man those cars are slow". I love her!

Church by Haag Lake

Lunch in Forest Grove

Church my wife and I were married in 13 years ago. This is in Gales Creek where I grew up.

The house I grew up in. Looks so small now! I thought it was huge when I lived there. We had 10 acres out here. Where I learned to ride dirt bikes.
Looks like they put on new siding and windows. Inside was sweet!

Looking from the driveway

From there, we stopped by and saw some friends who just purchased 10 acres a few miles away and built a house. We were running out of babysitting time so headed back pretty quick. We had a blast and can't wait until more nice weather.
Thanks
nate

Nice pics. Looks like you had a great time. The scenery on the higher elevations is beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

PS It is really great that your wife enjoys this stuff like you do. My wife really enjoys riding as a passenger but we can rarely find time that we can go together anymore.

Beautiful day! I have to get up there again soon- maybe this summer.
I got a rare chance yesterday to take a recreational ride (99% of my miles are commuting). Tried to make the most of it- 563 miles in a little over 11 hours. Got to wear off the chicken strips a little. And kill tons of bugs!

I lived in Hillsboro for 3 years long ago.
Rode all over them hills. Lee Falls, Cherry Grove and elsewhere.
I was on the beach one time and discovered my headlight was out just as the sun hit the water. I made it to Forest Grove before it was dark. Loved strafing that mountain.
Ever go to "21 Hole"?

On the Wilson river at mile marker 21. The actual mile marker will not be there however so you would need to notice mile marker 22 to find it. What it is is the best swimming hole in Oregon. A beautiful spot with smooth granite flows containing nice potholes full of warm water right next to the river. The river itself goes from shallow riffles just above, where people put their beer to keep it cool, down to a large deep hole with a place to dive in. This deep hole is where everybody's beer ends up. Often they think someone stole it from the riffles but it was the river that claims it and carries it into that hole. There is beer at least 6 feet thick down there but it's dangerous to retrieve.
It really is a beautiful spot to swim and cold, free beer puts it at number 1.

Great pics. That was an awesome day!

I was in Portland helping a restaurant with a burger contest that weekend.

Hooked up with an old friend of mine who had his 02 Ducati ST4s and myself on my 09 XT.
Sunday we ended up heading out to the coast and up 101 to Aberdeen. Followed Hwy 3 to Bremerton, up to Paulsbo \ Kingston and took the ferry over to Edmonds, dropping down into Seattle.

That was a great ride.

He stayed with some friends who were heading East over the Mountains on Monday.

...it pissed rain on Monday.

Sounds like it was a great day.

One word of advice, that guy that was staring at you..... don't follow guys like that if you can avoid it. On a beautiful spring day a couple years ago while behind one of those guys I got caught in a sudden "yellow" rain storm mixed with grass of some kind or another. Yuck doesn't begin to describe the mess the Uly and I were covered with. The worst part though, I was almost 2 hours from home.

Anyway, gratz on a great day and great ride, thanks for sharing.

Haha! We only followed him until we were able to pass. That would be a mess!
