Has anyone come up with an upgraded velocity stack for the Ully? I was even thinking that it's a shame to have a fully capable ECU controlled actuator that could possibly be hooked up to a variable length system with minimal work, and not use it. I have had many high performance V-twins in the past (Ducati and Aprilia) and I've always seen great gains in performance playing with the inlets with aftermarket kits... Has anyone experimented before?

Not that I know.

What do you mean by "fully capable ECU controlled actuator..."? The muffler valve actuator? Interesting idea.

The one thing about the Buells, is the airbox is already quite good and there isn't much more to be gained through intake geometry changes. It's been tried and found pretty much fruitless.

The Japanese models have some sort of variable intake (labeled as "intake solenoid" on the wiring diagram), though I'd guess it has to do with noise reduction rather than performance enhancement.

Yes I meant to use the muffler valve actuator.

As good as the airbox is, a static velocity stack will have optimal performance only at a certain rotation speed while compromising anything higher and lower than that. A variable length velocity stack can be made made to give better performance at at least two ranges.

I had it on my Aprilia RSVR Factory and the difference in power delivery and smoothness is definitely noticeable. Might be worth playing with it. I am waiting for my muffler to come back from being modded then I'll see what I can make.

These guys use a RC car digital servo to control the movement with precision. Nifty idea that allows infinite regulations:

I've often wondered why no one has come out with an infinitely variable exhaust for racing. The sliding trombone exhaust. Would seem easy enough to drive it off of RPM.

Variable intake length, Formula one stuff. The exhaust actuator is probably only good for two positions. Depending on if the white wire is grounded or not for open/closed.

The exhaust actuator is only good for 2 positions. It's only able to recognize position 1 or position 2. That is why the muffler is not infinitely variable.
I would certainly go with variable length velocity stack. Takes up less space. They have it right with using an RC servo. They are available at the local hobby shop, and have 3 wires........... Now ya need a design and a dyno.
