Motorcycle specific boots are good, if all you're going to wear them for is riding motorcycles. I wear boots all day long. I presently favor Thorogood Force Recon 8" side zip boots. They have a waterproof membrane, non-metallic composite safety toe, and they're very comfortable, whether I'm standing on flat concrete all day, or walking constantly. They cost well under $100.00/ pair, and they last longer than any motorcycle specific boots will under similar conditions. One of these days, when I'm a bit more financially solvent, I will get a pair of Sidi On Road boots that I 'll use strictly for traveling, but for now, the Thorogoods work well.

I've been really happy with a set of Joe Rocket Sonics (or Meteors, the shorter version of the two), so happy I've ordered a set of the taller ones. They are on back order until June it seems... Lightweight, decent armor, comfortable to walk in, waterproof through hours of deluge on the bike, easy on and off with velcro above and an instep/ankle ratchet strap and although not ventilated, they've never been 'broilers' on my feet. The liner is some sort of wicking fabric and works well enough. Standing in a stream they wept water through the toe seams, so I coated everything with a silicone treatment and they now seem totally waterproof. Inexpensive too... about $100 for the short version, $125 for the taller ones. Decent width to the toe area too, I'm an 11 1/2 EEEE and the 12's fit fine ( no half sizes). Plus they don't look too strange when off the bike.

In case someone searches on this thread in the future I figured I would update my findings on the Fox Comp5 Shorties.

I wear 11.5 shoes and boots (all my non riding boots and work shoes are chippewa).
For the last 25 years my MX boots have been size 12.

I bought these in size 12 and my toes are crunched up against the toe of the boots.
They allow me to return them with no problems, but they don't have 13 in stock (and adding .3" might be too much) so I ordered Alpinestars Tech 2 Boots.

This is where having a local stocking dealer is nice, but none of the local dealers stock this kind of stuff.

I do work 20 blocks from Revzilla in Phila, and I do deal with them a lot, but still shipping a return to them is cheaper then the taxi ride to go visit them.

+1 for the On Roads, bought mine when I bought my Uly 5/06, majority of the 76k on the bike are also on the Sidis. Left sole is finally starting to flatten lugless and they've been dry except for one ride in a storm where every waterproof thing we were wearing leaked.

But good point, those Thorogoods look like a great all-round solution.
